what should i do maitenance wise to my car before a 1700 mile road trip?
heres what ive done so far over the last few months in anticipation
1. new spark plugs
2. synthetic oil change
3. new tires
4. new pcv valve
5. checked belts, no cracks
6. coolant flush
7. tranny flush and filter
8. new tires
9. new rotors and brakes
10. new thermostat
11. alignment
12. cleaned k&n cold air intake
13. replaced tire on spare
14. replaced oem jack and lug wrench with heavier duty equipment
15. rain-x on all windows
16. jumper cables, lighter outlet car starter, extra belts, fix-a-flat, flares, water bottle, fuses, extra coolant, in trunk
17. new timing belt
18. new water pump
anything else im missing?
You sound damn excited. And like you're going across the world...
Anyway...to be honest, you didn't need to make that much preparation. I've taken several trips back and fourth from NY to TN (~1400 miles round trip) plus driving around the cities, etc. which adds to close to 300 miles to that. But then again, this was in a newer vehicle, and you left out what year, condition your car is in, etc.. I'd say all-in-all, you're ready. Good luck.
