How do I remove the bellhousing bolts in a 94' V6 Firebird?
I'm trying to pull my transmission but I've hit a snag. I can't seem to break lose 5 of the 6 bellhousing bolts. I know they should be torqued to 70ft-lbs. The only way I can reach the upper 4 bolts is with about 3ft of extensions/wobble extensions reaching from the back of the transmission to the housing. ...However when I try to break them loose it just bends the extensions. Is there a better place or method to reach and remove those upper 4 housing bolts?
It is a 1994 Pontiac Firebird with a 3.4L V6. The transmission is a one piece 4L60e.
Throw away the cheap chine made, light duty, small dia extensions.
A 3/8" extension should not bend even when 300 ft lbs is applied to it.
Your wobble joint may also be binding up and not giving you any torque to the bolt.
I use 3/8" 4 foot long impact extension and a 600 ft lbs air impact wrench to do that job
