Tube Mount
Tube Mount

Which telescope mount should I buy?
If you have a Dobsonian mount telescope, can you take the optical tube and mount it onto an equatorial mount? I'm getting a telescope, and I'm debating between Dobsonian and equatorial. I hear Dobsonians are easier to start with, but someday I want to do astrophotography and Dobs aren't too great for that. Can I start with a Dobsonian mount and change it (as said before) or should I just get an equatorial mount now?
Well, ..., more than likely, Yes. You'll just remove the casters, plug the holes with some "bondo" and you're good to go!
Definitely, start off with a dobsonian scope. They are a lot easier to operate and setup. As you progress, then you can put your money into are really good mount and use your old Optical Tube Assembly on the mount. BTW, don't think you're only restricted from astrophotography because you own a Dobsonian. Yes, you can't take long exposure photographs. However, you can take very decent short exposure photos of bright objects with a dob.
