do I need special tools to rebuild a transmission?

I have Dodge Dakota A518 tranny and want to rebuild it myself is there any special spacing tools I need or anything else if so what are they and how hard is it or any other tools that might be out there that I need?

The only special tool I've ever needed were good snap ring pliers.There is a tool for removing the front pump but I've never needed it.Becareful with the valve body my experience says thats the area you can get introuble with.
