Tacoma timing adjustment?
My brother has a 2000 toyota tacoma with a 2.4L. the previous owner had put a body lift and oversize baja wheels and tires on it, he'd also installed some kind of reprogrammer for the vehicle speed that was causing the tranny to act funny so we took it to the tranny guy to have a cable replaced so it would shift properly, it still shifts fine w/o the chip. it seems like it's WAY down on power when i drove it so i checked the timing and it's about 10 degrees ATDC (delayed) but i realized it was a distributorless ignition so i couldnt adjust it manually. What kind of OBDII tool do i need to adjust it? i would like to get one to check engine codes in my other vehicles so if i can get one to do both that would be great. Any info will help, thanks.
Normally these are timed by a cam sensor and read by the computer. So if the timing is off then i would think it is a sensor that has gone bad.Have a garage put a computer scanner on it and see what that tells you.
