Why do we have to tip a waiter by %.?
Why do we have to tip a waiter by %. The service is the same for a burger or Filet. I am willing to pay for service, but not a commission. It is the same trip from the kitchen to my table. I don't tip the guy at Home Depot for getting something off the shelf for me. If I did it would be the same tip for a box of screws or or a diamond sanding disc.
No NO nO you don't HAVE to tip. And you don't HAVE to tip a percentage. Doesn't the gal at the coffee shop give you the same service (coffee filled, water filled, plate of food brought hot, ketchup, etc.) that the gal in the steakhouse gives you? So why the heck is a percentage the rule of thumb? Servers on Y!A will tell you to tip them 20%. IF you want to tip and it IS your choice, tip what you want. An easy rule of thumb is a buck a plate.
