Is color blindness reversible if it is caused by certain medications?
My dad is taking methotrexate, folic acid, plaquenil, and prednisone for his rheumatoid arthritis. He is beginning to go color blind. He works in the automotive industry and one of the things he does is mix paints for cars so this is an obvious setback. I want to know if it is reversible if caught early enough.
Plaquenil and methotrexate both do funny things, vision-wise. Generally non-genetic colour vision deficiencies are reversible, but he may not be able to go off the medications either. He should specifically ask the eye doctor for a colour vision test using caps (Farnsworth D-15 is the typical one, although there's a 100-hue version specifically for people who work with colours for their jobs), to pick things up as early as possible.
