Just how patriotic are you?

I ask this because I saw a post the other day saying that they read in the press that the UK was banned from flying flags for fear of upsetting other races within the country.
Well for one I don't think it's true and I can't imagine who it would offend.
Secondly it would spur me into action and prompt me into hoisting the Union Jack whilst singing Rule Britannia.

So how would you feel if this was an issue in your country?
No Zoe it's not our NA but I think I prefer Rule Britannia as it has a more vigourous punch to it.

I remember hearing in the news recently that an ethnic group in the UK wanted to have people banned from flying the Union Jack. This news story went on to say that this ethnic minority was the largest of the ethnic minorities in the UK and they not only wanted the flag banned in the area where they congregated to live but also all over the UK because they felt that the original UK citizens were trying to make them feel unwanted (in the UK).

This same ethnic group here in Australia wanted to have nativity scenes displayed in shopping centres, schools and other public places banned. They also wanted the singing of Christmas carols over the PA banned.

This race of people or rather the overzealous ones of their religion appear to have a difficult time of interacting with other nationalities. And they have probably never heard the phrase (or some similar local colloquialism) : "When in Rome, do as Romans do" OR "Do not take the best seat in your hosts house, or you may find yourself relegated to the most uncomfortable".

So for two years no nativity scenes were seen in shops, so as not to offend these 'new Australians'. However after much debate in newspaper letter columns, letters to politicians and current affairs programs it was decided that the shops, schools etc should go back to displaying nativity scenes and singing carols.

This was decided because the countries where these ethnic people come from [where they dress in an impractical manner for movement, hide under hot head gear, brainwash their children into learning their bible by rote chanting and husbands are allowed to bash their wives as it says in their bible]; THEY expect visitors to their country to dress as they do.

Oops, I didn't answer your Heading Question, just the 2nd one. So, just how patriotic am I and my family - well we really love dressing up in our "Aussie Beauty" t-shirts and carrying our flag at the fireworks on Australia Day surrounded by other Aussies and many different nationalities who are all waving Aussie flags and talking to each other as old friends.

I am so glad the 'no nativity scene period' has passed because it was so dismal at the shops at those times and commercialism seemed to reign supreme on the PA system with its jumpy Muzak.
