white six panel doors with wood trim?
My home has hard wood floors with wood windows, so naturally the window and floor trim is wood. However, I went to Lowes and picked up 8 WHITE six panel doors to replace the older interior doors. My question is, can I use the matching wood trim (matching the rest of the house) around the WHITE doors, or will this be odd? And is I decide to go with white trim to match the door and jam, do I then need to pain all my windows white and replace all the rest of the trim in the house? Help, thanks!
Just as a note, I purchase an older home (built in 1948) where all the doors and trim are varnished wood. To a person, each family member or friend that has purchased a newer home where all the moldings and window frames are painted, they have commented on how much they missed the wood trim and doors that were in their older homes.
Even if you have to return the doors to Lowe's, don't paint the wood trim!
My suggestion would be to put up one of the doors with the wood trim and see if you like it. If you don't, change the doors.
After living in a house with real wood trim, moldings, and window frames, if you paint the wood, it will have the feeling of living in a plastic house!
Also, as I type this answer, I'm trying to envision what a white door, and a painted door frame would be with a wood crown molding and kick plate...
I really don't think that would look bad at all.
Spend some time looking at decorator and paint company websites. You just might find some arrangements or schemes that would give you and idea as to what it would look like.
Just don't paint the windows and all the trim!
