Mig Welder
Mig Welder

MiG welder?
I have a mig welder and the welding wire is not feeding through at a constant pace.
The wire sometimes snags in the liner and i have to re-thread it.
The wire itself seems to be slightly oxidised - could that be the problem.
Can i still use this wire or will i have to get some more?
What other causes could there be?
Remove the tip from the feeder gun. Clean the tip with a wire brush , especially into the hole which gets filled with burned flux. You can buy replacement tips from Halfords or other outlets. Regular cleaning usually does the trick until the tip eventually burns out.
Oxidised wire will feed at a constant pace, the problem is the blocked tip of the feeder halts the wires escape.
Dont waste your money on new wire until you have either cleaned the feeder tip, or fitted a replacement tip.
