Buying and using a torque wrench?
I'm replacing the head gasket on my 95 Civic, and I do not own a torque wrench. I'll probably never really need one after this project, so I don't want to spend a lot. I need one that can torque as low as 84 in/lbs (7 ft/lbs), and will accept a 3/8 in. socket since I don't want to buy a new 1/4 in socket set.
Is the beam-type wrench okay for this job, or do I really need to spend the money for a micrometer wrench?
Will I still be on spec if I use a 2" extension on the socket?
well if you really think you'll never use it again then, why not rent one? They rent them at several places i know certain auto parts stores have "loner tool sets".
I'm willing to bet though you'll use it more than you think there's even torque specs to spark plugs and lug nuts for real. so don't cheap out (i did and ended up buying another one anyways). Get one similar to the micro torque from craftsman it has a dial type handle in the back with a clear window viewer and it's 3/8" you will not be sorry.
as for the extensions yeah you're still on spec (unless you use a "wobble fitting")
