Custom Floor Cloths are a form of Walkable Art
Floor cloths have been known as “colonial linoleum” for many years. George Washington owned a floor cloth which he used in the White House. In the 18th century, people produced their own floor coverings by using sailcloth, oil paints, and varnish. Their popularity has resurged due to the ability to be custom sized, range of colors, and their easy maintenance. Today they remain a creative combination between art and craft.
The floor cloth’s, or "Oylcloths" as they are sometimes called, history begins in Britain at the beginning of the eighteenth century. Originally they were all hand painted, but in later years stencils and wooden blocks were used. The oldest floor cloth known to exist is located in the Swedish Royal Palace at Tullgarn, and dates back to 1800. In America, floor cloths can be found in Colonial Williamsburg and Natchez, Mississippi.
What is a floor cloth? Floor cloths are made of canvas that has been stretched and primed (as canvas paintings are) and are then hand painted with acrylic paint. After the paint dries, multiple coats of polyurethane are applied. Because of the fact that they are sealed, they are easy to keep clean and don’t harbor bacteria. Their durability provides a protective covering for hardwood floors, tile, and linoleum. They are ideal for kitchen floors, entrance ways, heavy traffic areas, children's rooms, breakfast areas, and any other area that needs some extra color.
They are so attractive and distinctive that many people, when first discovering one on the floor, are afraid to walk on them! The truth is, you can spill anything on them, including food and most any beverage. The advantage of custom floor cloths are that they provide great utility, but at the same time are a beautiful piece of art.

What would be a good paint to use on this black apron i use for work?
It is a black apron that has like a plastic / leather look to it and i was hoping i could repair it with some kind of paint. It apears it may be made out of Polyurethane. It rubs off after time and i keep having to get new aprons. But now they jacked up the price of the aprons and where i work won't give me free ones anymore and i don't want to keep buying new ones myself. Would a Polyurethane paint actually work or is it not the same kind of Polyurethane? Or maybe a Fabric Paint? Theres seems to be so many types of paint and this seems to be an odd material.
Heres a link to it.
