a 98N sack of grain is hoisted to a storage room 50m above the ground floor of a grain elevator.
a)how much work was required?
b)the rope being used to lift the sack of grain breaks just as the sack reaches the storage room.what kinetic energy does the sack have just before the it strikes the ground floor?

Mass of sack = m =W / g =98 / 9.8 =10 kg
Height of storage room = 50 m .
(a) Work done = W = mgh =98*50 =4900 J

Kinetic energy = Potential energy = mgh =4900 J
b) If the rope being used to lift the sack of grain breaks just as the sack reaches the storage room.the sack has 4900 J of kinetic energy just before the it strikes the ground floor.
