What kind of doctor do I need to go see?

I think I have a muscle tear or something between my left shoulder and elbow. There's no pain as long as my arm is hanging. Also doesn't hurt to move it around as long as I don't lift it above my shoulder.

But there's pain when I lift it up above my shoulder as if I were going to hoist my kid up in the air. I can do curls just fine, but if I try to do pushups it feels very weak and there is pain along the outside of the arm from the shoulder to elbow on that side.

It seems like it started six months ago and has been getting progressively worse.

What kind of doctor would diagnose exactly what is wrong. I'm thinking a physical therapist might prescribe exercises, but would they actually be able to determine what's wrong in there? And it seems like a general practitioner probably doesn't have the right expertise to diagnose an internal condition that is muscular - skeletal in nature.

Go to your regular Doctor, and they will be able to refer you to the specialist. With specialists you need a referral to go anyways.
