How big of an air compressor do i need in gallons to run a small 50 amp plasma cutter?
I'm cutting 3/16 steel, will a 5 gallon tank last long? should i get a 20 gallon? and how many cfm's do i need?
Your plasma cutter manual,or catalog should state the the air flow (pressure and cfm)needed for operation.Compressor specs will tell you what the compressor will deliver.It's more a matter of compressor capability than tank size.
If your PC requires say, 5CFM(cubic feet a minute) @(at) 90PSI,your compressor needs to deliver that figure at a minimum(slightly more is better)
Compressor pump needs to be able to replace tank air as fast as its used or tank pressure will drop below needed PSI and tool will not perform properly,or cause you to have to stop cutting(or sanding,grinding,whatever)while the compressor plays"catch-up"
