Astra G front wheel bearing hub replacement.?

Can anyone advise me on the female torx socket I will require to remove the three torx bolts which secure the wheel bearing hub. There is very little space to get the socket on because of the drive shaft boot , so it needs to be a relatively thin walled tool. Anything thick just won't go on. Am I missing something obvious. Also once I have removed the main castelated nut, I imagine the bearing should be removed fairly easily with a puller. There an increased huming reverberating through the body of the car which is worse when turning or moving to the left whilst on the move. Would I be correct in thinking that it is more likely to be the drivers side bearing which is at fault. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks.

If your sockets are too big for the job then you'll have to remove the hub nut, seperate the steering ball joint and the bottom ball joint, and then pull the hub assembly away from the driveshaft with your puller. You will then be able to get your socket on the torx bolts.

Either that or use a suitable ring spanner which fits good and tight on the torx bolts rather than a torx socket.

It certainly sounds like a wheel bearing has gone, but you need to put the car back together and put the wheel back on to test it properly.

Grab the road wheel at the top and bottom and give it backwards and forwards rock. If you feel any play then have someone put their foot hard on the brake pedal. If the play then disappears then the wheel bearing is at fault, otherwise its the bottom ball joint or its rear bushes at fault.

Drive the car in a straight line in an empty carpark or somewhere similar. Swerve to the left and right. If the noise disappears then the bearing on the side you swerved to is at fault.

You can also simply spin the wheel by hand and listen and feel for noise and roughness. Compare it to the other side.

Check all around the tyre on the affected side for feathering and uneven tread/lumps. This can produce a similar noise as a worn wheel bearing.
