Cordless Soldering
Cordless Soldering

Can duct tape be used instead of shrink wrap for soldering?
A couple days ago, the family bird was crawling around the floors of our house and chewed through one of the power cords from a cordless phone that goes to the power outlet. I knew enough knowledge about soldering to fix it, so I did and it works. But I remember my father told me to use shrink wrap when we repaired an N64 controller 12 or so years ago. I forgot about that and just used dust tape to cover up the the wires.
So basically the question is: Is it ok to use duct tape instead of shrink wrap?
Electrical tape would be better. Duct tape does not stay stuck. Use two pieces, not just one long one wrapped around more times.
Edit: Since you did not put the heat shrink on before soldering, we all do that sometimes, there is a heat shrinkable tape available. But I know it is not cheap relatively speaking.
Thanks for reminding me of that. I need to get some for work.
