Utility trailer tires?
I have a utility trailer 5'x8', mesh floor. The tires are 4.80-12 Tow Master. It says on the tire 60 psi cold, max load 780 lbs. I was wondering how much weight I can haul. Also, 60 psi seems alot in the tires. It also says Dange, when mounting unless beads are seated inflation over 32 psi can cause fatal explosion in service use pressure recommened by manufacture..Now Im all confused. Any Help???
Tires can handle 1560 pounds total, about 140 pounds on the hitch, 1700 pounds gross, less the weight of the trailer itself, about 1500 pounds maximum cargo, assuming the axle can handle it. Somewhere on the trailer should be a tag with the GVWR.
I used to have a lightweight trailer, 1080 pounds GVWR, 4.80x8 tires. Swapped to 5.40x8 wheels and tires. Hauled a car carcass to the scrap yard and they weighed my load at 1400 pounds. Went to Home Depot, got plywood and concrete and stuff, about 2000 pounds. Bent the axle. I do not recommend overloading trailers....
