Auto Shop
Auto Shop

I am a mechanical engineering student. Is this a good idea for me to work part time at an auto shop?
I'm thinking of just working part time at an auto shop helping them fix cars. For like minimum wage or whatever. Just so I could learn about cars.
But the big question is, would this kind of work experience (along with internships) be relevant to an engineering student who wants to go into the automotive industry after he graduates?
I'm an aerospace engineering student, and I think it won't help you. Many people assume that because you're an engineering student, you know how to fix autos and mount kitchen closets (which you may or may not know, but it has little to do with majoring in engineering). I don't think employers really care for experience fixing cars; focus on getting meaningful internship in design at the car companies (perhaps not the best time to get one...) or big corporations like Procter & Gamble etc.
