Tips Of Battery Charger Selection And Operation
Selecting the correct charger depends primarily on the design of your deep cycle battery, so the first thing you need to do is determine the construction type of your battery. There are a few popular types these days, and each has its own unique characteristics. One charger will not work for all types, so this step is very important. The four most common types of deep cycle batteries are wet cell, gel cell, absorbed glass mat, and the valve regulated lead-acid type, or VRLA.
Most people are familiar with the wet cell battery. Just like an automotive battery, this type has a liquid electrolyte that fills internal compartments, or cells, in which lead plates are hung. This is the most common type of deep cycle battery and is available off-the-shelf at most sporting goods and major department stores. The AGM (absorbed glass mat) construction uses a woven mesh material to absorb the electrolyte and keep it in constant contact with the lead compound. It is a sealed design and considered maintenance free, unlike some of the wet-cell batteries. It is, however, quite similar to the wet-cell and can use the same type of charger. The VRLA is also of sealed construction, but its main differentiation is that is uses an internal valve to vent the gases created during the charging cycle. It also can use the same type of charger as the wet-cell batteries.
A multiple stage deep cycle battery charger is used for the three battery types listed above. This charger comes in many sizes, so you do have to match the correct charger for your size battery. If you have more than one battery installed in your power supply, then you will need a multiple bank type charger. This is actually two, three, or even four chargers built into one unit. Depending on what country you live in, you also need to match the input voltage of the charger to the correct voltage of your service. If price is a major factor in your purchasing decision, you will find many basic deep cycle chargers available off-the-shelf. These will be lower priced, manually operated, and with few special features built in. You will need to start and stop this charger manually in most cases, and unhook the connectors when not in use. You will also need to manually set the dials and switches on the front panel for each operation and different battery that you charge.
If you are maintaining a higher quality battery, you may want to consider purchasing a "smart charger" instead. The smart charger is simply a computer controlled charger that actually takes readings from the battery it is connected to and then sends the proper charging voltages and currents necessary to provide a complete charge. Many of the smart chargers also have a built-in equalizing charge that kicks in after the primary charging is completed. This equalizing process evens out the charges in the individual battery cells.
The fourth type of battery, the gel cell, is considered a deep-deep cycle battery as it is designed to for extended cycle times and consequently, longer recharge times. The electrolyte inside the gel cell battery has been mixed with a thickening agent to solidify the solution. A "smart charger" is the preferred choice for maintaining the gel cell, but primarily because the gel cell is most susceptible to damage from over charging or improper charging. This type of battery can endure higher ambient temperatures that a wet-cell battery and can provide extended operating times that other battery types, but it does require special equipment to maintain it properly.
A good quality charger can take much of the guesswork out of properly maintaining your deep cycle marine battery. Whether you use a low-cost basic charger or a state-of-art smart charger, following a strict battery maintenance routine can ensure many years of trouble-free life from your trolling motor battery and other deep cycle batteries that you use.

Can you guide me in choosing an automotive battery charger?
My hubby asked for a battery charger for Christmas. I know he needs one for the lawn mower battery but also for the camper and boat. I know the battery on the camper is a deep cycle and the one on the boat is a marine battery (is that deep cycle too?) He mentioned something about keeping the battery maintained.
Is there a charger out there that I can get for both types of batteries? One that will also be a maintenance charger?
Or do I need to get one for the regular batteries and a second for the deep-cycle batteries?
I've tried looking at Sears, Northern and JC Whitney online but I don't know what I'm looking for. I'd like to stay under $200, if possible.

i own a repair shop,and you need one that will do a battery as small as a 2 amp battery which is what a lawn mower battery is,,go to advance auto parts they have a nice one for around 70 bucks,that will do all different types of battery's including the deep cycle battery's also,,i own one,and use it all the time,and have never had any problems from it,,and i think its on sale right now also,,good luck,,just tell them what you want ,and they,ll know which one you need,,good luck with it,i hope this help,s,,have a good x-mas.

true, you have to have a scan tool to know the temp of the trans fluid and level varies according to temp. And you must have the factory designed dipstick, which is actually a special tool. Snap-on may carry a universal one?? Why do u need to change the trans fluid anyway?

Why does my usb audio interface hum? Is this electrical interference?
I have a usb audio interface for recording. It works fine anywhere, except in my practice room. When I try to use it there, It makes a lot of noise on the speakers. It's an old building. I asked the owner, and he says he has no idea. It seems that somehow something is wrong with the power there, and it makes it's way thru the computer, into the usb, and out the speakers. Any ideas? Thanks.
Could be a reversed hot on the power plug. Could also be that your computer is not grounded or poorly grounded on the third pin wire of the electrical plug.

I am using an IBM USB fingerprint reader. I want to use this to authenticate someone when he logs in with his user ID. I could not find any SDK or API relatring to it.
You're probably going to have to go to IBM for this.
Fingerprint readers require extensive software to control the device, capture images, compile them down to templates and compare templates. Then the software has to interface with the OS to pony up the digital credentials that the network needs, and do all this securely.

Laptop keyboard broken, what can i do?
okay so my laptop keyboard is broken, and whenever i start it up it does this diagnostic bootup thing where at the end of it i can click Y or esc, but i can't since i have to have the laptop keyboard to do so, not a regular usb keyboard, what can i do?
what can i do right now? i can't start it up and i need to get something off of it... plus its a pretty old laptop, got it about 2004, paid 3000 dollars for it so :O
If you just want something off of it, why don't you take the drive out and stick it in a caddy and use another computer to take off what you want?

How do I get my belkin wireless 802.11n USB adapter to auto connect to network on startup?
For some reason this adaptor does not automatically connect to my wireless network on PC startup. I have to manually click connect.
If you are using windows vista this is how its done:
1.Go to ur start menu then go to connect to. This is a list of all the networks near you.
2. Right click on your network and go to properties.
3.click on connection tab ..then check the "connect automatically box is checked.

Packard Bell 2400 Plus USB Scanner Driver?
I recently found the aforementioned scanner at my workplace, with it's USB cables, and brought it home. I assumed it would be plug+play, but it needs drivers. The drivers on the Packard Bell website don't seem to work, I install, and nothing happens, even after uninstalling the device from Device Manager, and trying again. The device does show a light, and is recognized as "USB Scanner" by Windows.
Any ideas?
Well, if Windows recognizes the device as a USB scanner, it has installed generic drivers itself. You need to uninstall the device from Device manager (right click 'My Computer' and click 'Manage')
Navigate to the scanner, right click>Properties, then go to the Driver. You may be able to update the driver or replace it with the one you found online, or you may have to uninstall the device and reinstall it, this time installing your own drivers before Windows can install the generic ones.
Hold on... have you tried using the scanner with the current drivers? I know this sounds stupid, but hear me out. Go to Microsoft Word, go to Acquire Image>From Scanner or Camera. If the 'USB Scanner' shows up as an option, the generic driver works. You'll just need to scan the image straight into a program.
I don't know if you've tried that (you probably have), but sometimes a scanner is like a webcam. Some think that it doesn't work, when in actuality, they just don't know how to access it. I dunno if this is like you or not.
