Size Matters – Small or Large Louvres or Slats?
Whether you are choosing interior shutters or wood slat blinds, it’s important to consider what you want carefully before deciding on the size of the louvre blades or wood slats. With a range of sizes now available it can change both the appearance and function of your shutter or blind and your home.
There are several things that the louvre or slat size will influence, but arguably the most important is the level of light entering a room, however it will also influence privacy, the view from the window and the style of your room. It’s also important to consider the depth of your window recess, how far handles protrude into the recess and therefore what available space is left for your chosen shutter blades or slats, and last but certainly not least the actual size of the window itself.
Light
The simple rule is the larger the louvres on your interior shutters or slat on your wood slat blinds the greater the amount of light entering the room. The colour of the blade will also influence how much light is reflected so its also worth considering lighter colours if you are going for small louvres or wood slats. However, for many it’s a compromise between wanting light and therefore a larger blade, and balancing the size of the window, recess depth and the size of the window itself.
Privacy
Of course many people have a window covering because they need privacy. Shutters and blinds are a great way of achieving this without obstructing light. With the added benefit of being able to angle light away from precious furniture to prevent it fading. Angling slats or louvres easily prevents unwanted prying eyes from seeing into your property. While louvre or slat size doesn’t necessarily influence how much privacy you gain, as regardless of size they can be tilted to ensure people can’t see in, the view in is more obscured with smaller blades when left open though.
Balance
If you have a small window then small blades or slats will look better, and if you have a large window large will be better suited. Small blades on large windows look cluttered and obstruct too much light and the view. However, on small windows a large blade will look out of kilter as there are too few in a small space.
For many the compromise between window balance and light means that they select a medium blade or slat size, so 64mm for an interior shutter and the 50mm or 64mm for a wood slat blind. For most average windows this looks best.
However, if you are lucky enough to have a wide expanse of glass such as a wide opening, doorway, or even a floor to ceiling wall of glass at one end of a room then you may want to consider large or extra large louvres. Shutters are available in 89mm and 114mm for those who have extremely large openings. Wood slat blinds may not be suitable for this type of opening and if your preference is for a blind it will need to be a vertical.
For those who want a combination of both shutters and blinds, it is now possible to purchase a Shuttermatch wood slat blind that is available in 64mm slats to match the medium louvre blade on a shutter. This gives a more consistent appearance from the outside of a property.
Recess depth
If you have a very shallow recess this may limit your choice, especially if you have handles that also protrude into the space. You could consider putting your shutter or blind on the outside of the recess as this may work better for you, or opting for a smaller louvre or slat combined with fitting as far forward as possible to prevent the handles interfering with the movement of the louvres or slats.
Style
If you want to create the feeling of a cosy cottage then small louvres or slats are more likely to do this, while large blades will create a studio feel especially on large windows. Another option is solid interior shutters, which were popular with the Victorians and suit period homes, and then size is less of an issue. Large blades with wooden flooring can also create a very modern look.

Suggestions as to what color curtain to hang in a large open room with hardwood floors and sage green walls?
I am thinking an olive green.
The adjacent dining room/kitchen is hardwood with beige walls.
Your color and fabric selection will really depend on your decor and lifestyle.
some options I'm visualizing are:
1. the olive green that you mentioned will create a serene room, tone on tone tends to do that.
2. a print in red/cream/brown/......some sort of plaid.
3. (my favorite) metallics. Think brass, not Gold. This will add tons of class and reflection to the room. If you pick a soft texture, like a sheer, linen or chintz, the room will remain soft but exciting.

Locking Cd/dvd Drives for Protecting Them From Children
Imagine: it’s a summer evening. You are sitting in front of your home computer and playing Solitaire or any other computer game you like. After some time you decide to have a rest. When you return to the room, you find your child playing with CD, DVD or Blue-ray drive of the computer. Of course, DVD drive is a rather fragile device, and it’s very easy to break it down. Soon you find out that it’s even easier than you could imagine. After buying a new drive for optical disks you start to search the solution that can help you to lock the device and thus prevents your child from playing with it.
Though there is a number of freeware utilities designed to lock CD/DVD drives, the most advanced and comfortable in use is not a free one. Before writing this article I have tested three different freeware utilities (I won’t name them in order to avoid offending of their developers) and decided to buy the pay one. The first of these freeware utilities refused to run under Windows Vista, the second one could lock only one DVD drive of the two installed on my computer, and the third one removed the lock after computer’s waking up from sleep mode. I decided to pay a bit more and obtain the utility running under Windows Vista, working with any amount of CD/DVD drives and providing reliable protection for those devices.
The utility I liked most is called CD-Door Guard. It’s easy to find it here: http://www.m-w-c-s.com. You can download trial version that will work for 10 days after you install it. The price of CD-Door Guard is $15 per license. I suppose this purchase is a good investment because you save about $50 on each drive that you can protect using it. That’s not an advertisement; I speak as a satisfied buyer of this software.
What do you get for your money? CD-Door Guard has 10 times more functions than any other freeware utility. It will automatically close the CD/DVD drive’s tray after certain time if you forget to do it; it supports hot-keys to open or close the drive’s tray. The utility even reminds about forgotten disks inside the drive when you switch off the computer or switch it to sleep mode. You can choose different settings for each installed drive for optical disks. For laptop users CD-Door Guard offers locking DVD drive when Windows goes to sleep mode. Now when you push the button on the DVD drive, it won’t open and you won’t crash it. DVD drive also can be locked when Windows starts. You can customize “sound effects” and make CD-Door Guard beep when it locks or unlocks DVD drives. The only inconvenience is that the sound of CD-Door Guard is similar to the sound played by my antivirus when it detects a malware. So I had to turn off this option in CD-Door Guard.
The main disadvantage of CD-Door Guard is a large number of different switches in options window. I was a bit confused when I saw them for first time. But after studying them attentively you find out that all these switches are useful in different cases. CD-Door Guard supports different languages: it’s useful for those users whose native language is not English. If you speak not only English, you can create translation of CD-Door Guard and receive a registration key without paying money.
As it was mentioned above, I’m a user of CD-Door Guard, and I can definitely say that this utility does 100% of what it is supposed to do. I can rate CD-Door Guard with the highest mark. It’s simply the best utility you can choose to prevent the crash of CD/DVD drive.

What makes Security Tools Warning easily stop execute files from running although they are protected?
Rogue anti-spyware getting more advanced. The "protection" is overcome by starting security tool trojans process earlier and messing up with registry. Additionally, it blacklists lots of executables, so even antivirus processes can do nothing as long as they can not start.

Photo Storage Devices As New Photo Ambum
In the past, people used photo albums to store photographs in and this served people well for many years. These were portable devices that could be displayed on coffee tables and shared with many people that visited. The opportunities for sharing photos have dramatically changed over the years and they will probably expand even further if electronic wizards have anything to say about it.
Some of the devices that people choose to store photographs in are memory cards, personal computers and on the internet at many of the new photograph storage facilities. People lean toward the latter because the storage services that are offered are free of charge and are just as convenient to use as the other devices that store photo images just as well.
Some people prefer to use the memory cards for storage of the photos because these cards were made to fit into the cameras that the person owns. These electronic photograph storage devices are very portable too because they are small enough to fit in the palm or in the pocket of any outfit that the photo enthusiast has on that day. The photographs on the memory cards can be transferred to many places or left on the memory card until there is no memory left for further storage.
Many digital cameras are equipped with ports that allow photos to be transferred onto many devices or they can be printed out on a home printer. These photo printers will usually come with software that allows the photo hobbyist to transfer images from the digital camera into a printer memory bank and in most cases the printer will store the images in photo storage facilities that are pre-loaded onto the home computer system.
The digital camera can also be used as a photo or video storage facility but the memory in the camera will be used up very quickly if some of those images are not transferred to some other form of digital media. The photos are usually stored with a file extension that ends with .jpg and this file extension makes these photos candidates for storage on computers or attaching them in emails.
Some people will use the email systems to store photos because the storage limits on many websites is very limited and some require a small fee per month to store photos on the sites. This charge is for the amount of space that is used on the servers that they use for other things online like games and music stations. Some people do not mind paying these fees because they know that the photos they cherish will be safe.

There was a colony with one condition, they were never to extract venom from hobbyists, foragers, or producers. But one person couldn't resist. That person saw a forager and decided to emerge from a storage room. They insterted the nectar into the forager's shoulder framesa, but the forager couldn't react.... for he was already dead.

Deadly Ozone From Drive-thru Mania
We are Idling our way to Deadly Consequences.
Is it possible that the time has come for us to re-evaluate the importance of what we’re actually breathing in here? Should we re-consider the consequences of this unnecessary convenience just to eliminate that simple walk?
Edmonton’s Drive-Thru’s contribute 25 tons of Green House Gases into the atmosphere each day. That’s 750 tons in a single month alone. These are startling facts and were researched from only this city alone!
This alarming discovery was given immediate attention by CTV news and revealing these startling estimated statistics May 30 2007 the source came from the University of Calgary.
Their research was based on daily estimates in the contribution of Green House Gases into the atmosphere. Edmonton’s drive-thrus as of this date are contributing an estimated 25 tons per day. Can this help repair the ozone layer?
Over a year, an estimated total would be 9000 tons just from this city alone.
Now let’s take this one step further.
Using a total of 115 cities with same population, same amount of drive-thru’s the outstanding shocker of the day would reveal a total of I MILLION TONS of Green House Gases to the atmosphere in one year alone.
We can’t even begin to comprehend what that figure would be world-wide over a period of only five years. And the irony of this is the fact that few seem to take note or consider the relevance to what we are doing to ourselves from this pollution.
Drive-thru mania is spreading like a bad disease across the US and Canada.
And there are two main reasons for their increasing popularity, convenience and money.
Chains are in frantic competition to offer the best service, while eliminating the cost of the larger restaurant. Offering the smaller restaurants with the drive-thru window, customers and owners alike are happy.
Some Startling Future Plans
• CEO Jim Keyes would like to see half of all the new 7-Eleven stores to be built with drive-thru’s.
• Dunkin Donuts decides 65% of all new restaurants will be built with drive-thru’s.
• McDonalds has 13,000 restaurants across the US however, 90% of them have drive-thru’s.
• The number of drive-thru’s has doubled in the last five years.
• Good To Go Fast Food in Houston Texas has fourteen drive-thru lanes to accommodate their customers.
With all this money making excitement building to new heights, owners are battling to reduce idle times in the drive-thru. Sounds like a sincere attempt however, you can only do so much with this idea as humans can only move so fast.
Additionally, if all the coffee shops, 7-Eleven stores, Taco Bell’s, along with Wendy’s, Burger King and McDonalds build or renovate new drive-thru windows, this sincere attempt only masks the lack of concern here and contradicts this idea of reducing idle time. Reason being, allowing for new drive-thrus year after year will only increase idle vehicles not decrease.
These drive-thru window services contribute to smog, emissions, noise pollution, air pollution, pollution within the store itself as employees at the window are constantly breathing in exhaust fumes. They add to our obesity problem creating a lazy society. They congest the parking lots creating line ups adding to even more idling vehicles.
Effects from Ground Level Ozone
Scientists have estimated that 50,000 to 100,000 deaths per year are associated with air pollution, a very disturbing reality. Regarding the ozone layer, 90% of ozone is good ozone however the remaining 10% is regarded as bad ozone and occurs at ground level as a pollutant. It’s called ground level ozone pollution.
Vehicle exhaust, solvents, industrial emissions and gasoline vapours are some of the major sources of bad ozone. Inhaling ozone at ground level enhances the lungs vulnerability to infections and increases sensitivity to other pollutants.
And repeated exposure to ozone can cause permanent damage to the respiratory system aggravating heart and lung diseases.
It damages plant life interfering with their food production hindering their resistance to insects, disease and polluted air.
Is all this for Convenience Sake, Money, Success?
Is the human species evolving or are we becoming selfish to our never ending needs, our services rendered mind set? Or is it because we cannot turn back the clock and change the structured society we all love so much?
Maybe we have misled ourselves in regards to the meaning of purpose. Materialistically speaking, is it our destiny or purpose to acquire as much as possible? Is our evolutionary success based on our technologically convenient lifestyle?
Or are we here to serve the almighty dollar?
Things can become interesting when viewed from a different perspective and we should seriously re-consider the consequences that may or will arise from our human behavioural habits.
That walk from the car is not all that far because regardless of how much money is to be made it is just never enough anyway.
Spread the word and help control the deadly consequences of drive-thru convenience!!

Tools Heavy
Tools Heavy

What kind of tools do you use under a kitchen sink to tighten loose pipe fittings?
I used a 14 inch pipe wrench and it is much too heavy. I would like to use something that is easier to handle.
If the pipes you're working on are the water supply lines - the tool you want is called a BASIN WRENCH. You can find it at a hardware store, Lowe's, Home Depot, or wherever you buy tools.
If the pipes you're working on are the drain pipes, then a simple channel lock plier may work well.

Is there a way to COMPLETELY clean your hard drive w/out being online or going to a professional?
I'm wanting to sell my old computer. But first, I want to completely clean everything out of it. So that even if a professional looks & tries to find something, there will be nothing of mine hidden anywhere in the hard drive. I don't have the money to take it & get it professionally wiped clean. And I can't visit any websites on it, that you can clean it from. For some reason, since I got this new computer, the internet won't work on the old one. Someway the cable co has it set up. Is there a cheap disk I can buy or another method to erase my hard drive completely? (I have the disk to re-install windows & I've already used it to clean it that way...I just want to be SURE nothing of mine is still lingering in there anywhere). Thank you!
Yes. It's also a very wise idea!
While unlikely that someone would try to recover your formated drive, formating *DOES NOT* remove the data on the drive. Formating a hard drive is like erasing the index of a reference book. The pages are still there. There's just no link to the information. A professional might still be able to recover data from a formatted drive.
Check the 1st link below for information about the free program KillDisk that will do what you want.
The free version is all you'll need.
Only if you're over paranoid or work for the government, would you need the pay version that also...

4 Different Types of Mountain Bikes Explained
With mountain biking being a very popular sport, there are many bikes to choose from. Depending on what type of riding you like, the style of bikes you can choose from will vary. Below, you'll find tips on the different types of bikes available.
1. Cross country Almost all mountain bikes will fit into this category. Cross country mountain bikes are light weight, making them easy to ride over most terrains, even up and down hills. This is the most common mountain bike and it can be used with ease for riding on the path or even commuting.
2. Downhill These types of bikes are for serious bikers who crave the ultimate adventure. Downhill bikes have front and rear suspension, strong parts, and disc brakes. Rarely available off the shelf, most riders like to custom build their own.
3. Trials Trail mountain biking involves a great degree of skill and is classified as the precision riding of the sport. Similiar to downhill bikes, trial riders will often build their own bikes rather than purchase one off a shelf. Generally very light and very strong, these bikes require a lot of discipline.
4. Jump and slalom Slalom and jump bikes are very strong and designed for jumping, street racing, and slalom. They offer a front suspension and use very strong components dedicated to what they do. These bikes are very popular with the sport of mountain biking.
Even if you are new to mountain biking, the sport can be a lot of fun. There are several bikes to choose from, all of which depend on your style. If you are still looking for the best style for you, all you have to do is try out several bikes and see which one suites you the best.
Buying A Mountain Bike:
It can be a bit frustrating as well as time consuming when you buy a mountain bike. Below, you'll find some tips and things to be aware of before you lay down the cash and buy a mountain bike.
Determining your price: There is really no limit as to how much money you can spend on a new mountain bike. To help you keep your spending under control, you should figure out what your price range is and how much your willing to pay for a new bike.
When you buy, you shouldn't buy from mass merchant stores such as Wal-Mart. You should instead support your local bike shop and get a much better bike and much better service.
Finding your style:
All mountain bikes are designed with several different riding styles and terrain types in mind. You'll need to figure out what type of riding you will be doing the most.
Smooth riding, cross country racing, mountain cruising, or lift accessed downhill is something you need to figure out. Make sure that the bike you select fits your personal style and not that of the sale's staff.
Full suspension or hard tail:
If you can afford it, a full suspension mountain bike is always worth the purchase. A hard tail, without rear suspension, is much lighter weight and pedal more efficiently, although full suspensions offer more comfort and overall better control.
You'll want to make that decision based on your price range, riding style, and the type of terrain you'll be riding on the most. Finding your favorites: Comparing mountain bikes component to component is nearly impossible, as there are far too many combinations available.
The best way to go about doing this is finding a few components that are the most important to you and making sure the rest or the minimums fall within your price range. You can start with the fork then look at the wheels and rear derailleur.
Sales and seasons:
During the year, the prices of mountain bikes can fluctuate quite a bit. Spring through summer is the main buying season. If you can wait until the right price pops up, normally in the fall and winter, you can save a couple hundred dollars.
Many bike shops will also offer discounts or other accessories if you buy from them. Finding a good dealer: Finding a good bike dealer is more important than finding the best price. You should always find a dealer that cares more about selling you a great bike than selling you a high priced one. A great dealer will have a clean repair shop and give you the impression that you can really trust them.
Test ride:
You should test ride as many bikes as you can within your price range and riding style. You'll find that some bikes will feel right, while others won't. The more bikes you can test drive, you better you'll understand what works and what doesn't.
Doing the research: Product reviews and bike reviews are some of the best ways to find out about a mountain bikes reliability and overall performance. You should always look at what other owners and reviews think about a bike before you make that final purchase.

Can you lift weights after you ride your bike?
I do about 18 miles,4- 5 times a week.Can i litf weights, after i ride my bike?
Go for it, Bike riding does little for the upper body. However I would alternate days between weights and riding unless your riding to the gym. Don't go for bulking up, but work on more repetitions at a lower weight. Upper body conditioning pays huge dividends in climbing as you can stay relaxed and you can put all your energy into getting to the top. One other area is do some hamstring work while doing your weight work out as biking doesn't work the hammies enough.
