How do I manually reset the Check Engine Light on a 2000 Infiniti QX4 without using an OBD II Scan Tool?
I performed a service on the car myself; but the check engine light is still on. How do I reset it myself without having to purchase an expensive OBD scanner?
I know AutoZone or Checkers can do this for free, but there are no locations nearby where I live. I already tried to disconnect the battery, but that did not work.

how long did u wait on the battery? sometimes you have leave it unhooked from 20+ min, not just diconnect and reconnect it

i personally use a snap on modis but you can buy a p.o.s hand held code reader at auto zone but remember you get what you pay for and may find yourself putting on parts you don't need by trying to do it yourself

how to diagnose if my thermostat not working in my car?
i dont have hot air in my car,is there any ways to check it if it is working properly?i don't want to bring the thermostat and boil it to see whether it is working .how do mechanics diagnose it?
Here is positive proof:
Start your cold car and then open the radiator cap immediately. Modern radiator caps may require a pair of pliers, being stronger than your grip, but open it anyway.
As the engine idles, wait until it reaches operating temperature. You will hear the electric fan come on, and you will see the water begin to flow past the radiator cap...and towards the engine. (YOU may need a flashlight?) The water may rise to the top, but it will NOT squirt in your face, like a geyser. (that is a danger when you open a HOT radiator)
This means the thermostat has opened and the water is being pumped as it should.
Turn off engine, and replace the radiator cap tightly.

does the peake obd scanner give exact fault on bmw 330ci 2004?
got scanned at autozone gave me 2 fault codes po171 po174 but each code has about 5 possible solutions someone said the peake scanner was alot better for bmw
The scan tool only gives you data that you then use to diagnose the problem. A better scan tool still won't tell you what part to replace. You now have to test and inspect to narrow down the cause. Manual should have diagnostic charts for those codes. Vacuum leaks, induction leaks and dirty or failed mass airflow sensors are most common causes of those lean codes, I'd start there.

Car not starting.. OBD code erased?
So I rented an OBDII Scanner.. plugged it it, it showed error codes with linking. My neighbor comes out, starts pushing all the buttons ("erase code" included). I bring the scanner back and the guy there says they gave me a broken one, here's one that will work. The new one links to my car but says pass, no codes.
If the "erase code" button erases the error, is there anyway to bring it back or recall it, without starting the engine?
Ok guys, you're missing the question.. how to get the codes if you cannot start the car?
NO, Once the codes are erased, they are gone.
The only thing you can do is drive the car until the check engine light comes back on and then again read the codes. Shame on your Neighbor for erasing without writing down what codes were stored.

If you can't start the car and the codes are erased, you are probably out of luck unless the code will set again by just trying to start the car but that is Not likely.

How much work would it be to change the OBDI port in my car to an OBDII port?
I want to do this so i can use a flash tuner on my car. It is a 1994 mustang GT.
can't be done. the computer in your car runs on a different programming language than obdll. what you can do is try and find maybe a different PROM chip for the car.

how would you delete an avg email scanner banner from appearing on screen?
every now and again a banner pops up on screen saying avg e-mail scanner auto pop3:connecting to pop3.tiscali.co.uk.
it doesnt seem to be doing any harm but it can be annoying as it keeps coming and going.been in avg control centre and removed the email scanner but warning keeps popping up. have also uninstalled then installed avg but its still there. any ideas?
