What is the best four post car lift/ramp to get?
That's not too expensive.
Something like a Bradbury 40 lift can be bought fully reconditioned for about £2500 (3 ton capacity). They do the job but 4 posters are very awkward things to work around.
I'm assuming you've got your reasons for wanting a four poster but I prefer 2 post lifts as they leave the wheels free and allow more access to the underside of the vehicle.
Something like a GEG240 4 ton lift (single phase operation) can be bought new for <£2000.

Is a car jack for a classic GTO specific to year?
I know it sounds silly, but I don't know.
Do you have to buy a jack for a GTO specific to the year? Like do I need to look for a '70 GTO car jack, or just any Pontiac car jack?
I know it sounds retarded, but I was told by quite a few people that Pontiacs have to have car jacks made specifically for them.
if your looking for a original jack for a 70 gto i believe the base and the pole part of any gm car is the same but the part that goes onto the bumper is different as the bumper shapes are different try and find some one in the pontiac oakland club they will know

Can ANYone help me design a UFo type vehicle with jet engines providing vertical takeoff without rotary blades?
Not talkin helicopters. More along the lines of UFO alien vehicle type designs that use micro jet engines for lift. Only need it to fit 1 person in cockpit with glass dome for windshield and instrument reading board to hold portable gps system and CB radio. Preferably a more modern design. Doesn't have to b proffesional evn a picture will do. No design is stupid. * all design welcome example=

Ive got about 900 pounds of thrust with all three engines
Two for thrust and 1 for stabilizing the aircraft
It is possible but probably but not very practical while flying. The problem is not going up but moving around in the air and then landing. I guess I could make the body move like a Frisbee but that could take years to actually come up with the right design. As for jet engines you might want to consider them not being micro but built into the vehicle so where people only see the bottoms. As for trying to land something like that I have no idea.

I heard this saying once, but I can't remember how it goes.
It's something about a man who's car broke down and he needs to borrow a tire jack, but on the way he thinks of all these things that could go wrong. . . and the morale ends up being not to worry about things so far ahead of time.
Anyone remember it in detail?

Auto Lifts For The Home User
Consumers with a garage at home can now easily perform maintenance and repairs on the undercarriage of their automobiles. The convenience of owning a home auto lift not only increases the productivity of repairs, but also increases the amount of storage space available. Home automotive lifts usually involve a group of four posts, pneumatically controlled to lift an automobile safely.
These lifts provide a safe means to raise one's vehicle for access to the car's undercarriage for transmission and oil work. Automotive lifts also provide increased storage space, by allowing the consumer to lift their car out of the way and to open up the garage floor space. For more serious garages and commercial operations, there are heavy-duty automotive lifts available. Standard equipment usually involves one, two, or four post lifts. The final choice involves the balance of lift capability, lift stability, and available additional space for the lift equipment. These heavier lifts usually require additional maintenance. The industrial nature of these auto lifts means that their maintenance is better left to professionals if the user has any doubt about being able to work the equipment while maintaining the designed safety features.
One post lifts are the most economical in terms of space. The two varieties of one post lifts are centered lifts and offset lifts. Centered one post auto lifts have a lot more strength than offset one post auto lifts. Offset lifts provide space for a vehicle to be placed underneath a lifted object, providing space economy. Four post models also allow for the same space saving capabilities as a single post model, but they do require more space and power. The upside to a four post lift is a greatly increased power output (four times that of a single post). The two post model is a balance between the two versions.
Auto lifts give a home user full access to their vehicle from different sides. This allows you to perform maintenance and repairs on your vehicle from the comfort of home, saving you both time and money.

How to swap a 5-speed into a 99 auto Wrangler?
I have a 1999 Jeep wrangler 3sp auto, I want a 5-sp because I hate auto. I got a really good deal on this one and thought I would be happy. I have a lift and bigger tires and I like everything about it but the auto so I don't want to sell mine and get a 5-sp. What do I need to swap the 5-sp in? Do you know of any websites that could help? Thanks for the help.
That would be a lot of work. You would have to fab up a clutch pedal for it then buy the hydraulics for it. Then you would need a new flywheel (yours doesn't have one it has a flexplate) a new engine controller. Then you will need to cut hole in the floor for the shifter. Oh you will have to get the shifter also. I know there is more that I am missing but I can't remember. Either way it is way to much in time and money to be worth it.

Why is there such a big slump in garage sales?
The last two lawn/garage sales I had, I only made a dollar each time and it wasn't even household stuff - it was some plants I brought home from work to sell. I have lots of beatitful antiques, china, glassware and other collectibles that I'm trying to liquidate from my mother's house. I'm right on the main road and there's tons of traffic going by, but nobody is stopping and those that are expect you to GIVE them the stuff. I even called local antique dealers and auctions, but nobody is interested in my stuff. I even advertised and only a few people showed up but I guess they didn't want anything. I'd like to get the house cleaned out so I can sell it, but it looks like I'm going to have it for a LONG time at this rate. Any ideas why there's such a slump in the antiques market? What can I do to expedite my sales?
Maybe your price was to high for a yard sale..
What you need is take your antiques to a Fle-Market...there are lots of antique dealers roaming these places.

The Science of Hand Trucks
Also known as two wheeled dolly or sack truck, the hand truck is an invaluable piece of equipment. Widely used in store rooms and warehouses, they are sometimes also used to transport baggage at train stations and other similar environments. Hand trucks are now available in some variety, some can even be used when going up or down flights of stairs, but they are all based around the same basic design.
The hand truck operates using the concept of leverage. Levers operate by multiplying mechanical force from one end - the 'effort' (in this case the person pushing the truck), so that it can be applied with more force to another object - the 'load' (boxes being pushed). In a basic sense a lever is a rigid object that is used with an appropriately placed pivot or fulcrum in order to achieve this increase in force. There are three basic classes of levers, the hand truck is a first class lever - the pivot is located between input effort and output load, the lever swings about the pivot when force is applied in order to overcome the force of resistance on the opposite side. Other examples of first class levers include see-saws, trebuchets and even shoehorns. In hand trucks the axis is the fulcrum, they are also designed to put the weight burden primarily on the wheels when in use, rather than on the user. One of the first to understand that simple machines do not create energy, they just transform it, was Galileo Galilei, he noted this is in Le Maccanicle in around 1600. With new understanding of these concepts from great minds of the scientific revolution, basic machinery was able to evolve. Levers are still considered one the six simple machines, alongside wheels and axles, pulleys, inclined planes, wedges and screws.
Of course the idea of levers had been around long before Galileo. Archimedes of Syracuse (c.287BC - c.212BC) is said to have had a great understanding of and belief in the lever. In a letter to King Heiro he is claimed to have said, that given a place to stand and a lever, he would be able to move the whole world. Although it has since been discovered that moving the earth with a lever would require mind boggling distances and amounts of time, Archimedes was able to demonstrate the power of levers in another way. He is said to have created the appropriate lever to launch a ship from a harbour by himself.
This may all seemed far removed from hand trucks and similar material handling products. They are tools used every day by companies and other organizations throughout the world, but the physics that explains how they work is rarely considered. It is worthwhile to remember that even primitive tools had to evolve and be understood before any serious technological or mechanical advancement could be made. The hand truck is an example of a basic lever that is still widely used today. It is also advantageous in that it is environmentally friendly, simple to use and durable. They can be cheaper to maintain than some pieces of equipment as they have fewer moving parts that can potentially need replacing. With several kinds available for differing needs, hand trucks are likely to be in use for a while to come.

What is the easiest way to move my 55 gallon aquarium?
I would like to be able to move the fish in the water in the aquarium. I am only moving about 200 yards away from where I live now. Is it possible to drain about half the water and put the aquarium on a dolly and wheel it to my new house? Will they be safe?
dadvice1 has got it right...
The easiest and safest way is to empty everything out of it and use the water you're draining to move your fish, gravel, decorations, etc. in buckets... Believe me, we always run into this and end up not moving the aquariums... Too fragile and if the customer decides to attempt it, they usually spend the next 2-4 hours cleaning up the mess...
By draining the old water into buckets and re-using the same old water, your fish will have an easier time re-adjusting to the new setup and the water change... That will definitely help in not stressing out the fish so much...

A lot of people use tend to use their garage as a workshop, a place to enjy their hobbies and even a place to hang out with friends to relax and unwind after a long day at the office. '96 RAV4 Wheel Bearing - part+2.5 hr. labor fair? "harder" to put on?
I was told by the garage (not someone I normally go to, so not sure how trustworthy) that my '96 toyota RAV4 (almost 150K mi) needs the left front wheel bearing replaced to pass inspection. they estimated $65 for the part, which is about what I found online. But, they told me it is a labor-intensive job to fix, and would take about 2.5 hours. They said that this particular kind of wheel bearing is "closed" so it's not something that can just be repacked w/ grease, and that it is a tight fit and requires some sort of hydraulic something-or-other to fit it on tightly and accurately - not an easy -to-fix wheel bearing like other vehicles. True? Not true? Please help quick! I need to tell them whether or not to do the work this morning, and I'm trying to get other estimates. Thank you!!
There might be one more suprize the drive flange with the wheel studs can wear away at the bearing when there is slack. Hydraulic Press is used to drive out the old bearing and press in the new one. You might call the toyota parts department and ask if they also sell flanges when wheel bearings are replaced. Yes 2.5 hours is the going price and your mechanic will come out looking like he did something. Front suspension under the fender is the dirtiest place on the car.
