Is there such thing as a floor vent kit?
I live in a bi-level house and have a pellet stove in the finished lower level with a drop ceiling. We would like to have a couple of floor vents installed to help heat the upper floor. My problem is trying to find a" floor vent kit". All I see is just floor vent plate at a local hardware store. Is there such things as a floor vent to ceiling kit? Thanks for any input.
To my knowledge there is no such "kit" for venting through a ceiling into the space above.
The easiest way to get downstairs heat to upper floors is to leave the door open between them. When the rooms above get warm enough, close the door and reopen as necessary.
There do exist however, ceiling vent outlet grills, and floor vent outlet grills, both of which are designed to attach to a duct [some for metal duct and some for insulation board ducts].
By installing a set of those, connected with a duct, you can accomplish what you are wanting to do.
Another way of doing it would be to cut a hole in the ceiling and floor immediately above to fit the ceiling and floor vent grills, and using 2x4s, frame a "chase" [or duct] between the two, and then sheath and close that in with drywall board [Sheetrock, or equivalent].

What would happen of you cut one of the cables in a post tensioned floor in a building?
I am an electrician by trade and I do a lot of core drilling to penetrate floors between levels in a building. Someone suggested to me that I should always check with the building engineer before I drill to be sure it is not a post tensioned floor I am drilling through. They explained that if I cut a cable in the post tensioned floor, the cable could come flying out of the side of the building... any truth to this???
practically nothing , i mean the floor won't collapse , what will happen is that the Bending moment will increase & a deflection occures , it won't collapse just because we take a large factor of safety almost 2 times when we design such slabs.
about the cable coming flying , actually i don't know i wasn't told so , besides i didn't have a training with a post tensioned beams or slabs.
but in order to make such a cable tensioned it'l pulled by a hydraulic jack & then wedged so that it won't loose it's tension.
so it's under tension & when u cut through it when it's like that , i just don't know .... it may fly as they told u , but frankly i don't think it will .......that doesn't mean u can cut it anyway.

Should I buy ramps or buy a floor jack and jack stands to change my oil? Or just pay to have it done?
When using Mobil one for a oil change...the oil change places charge double of other oil change services..so after an initial purhcase for ramps or a jack I'll definitly save money in the long run...Or is it just a pain to do, so have it done with enviromental concerns etc.
Nah, oil changes are easy, dude. Most shops, including Jiffy Lube, routinely screw up the oil change and forget to add new oil or sometimes forget to replace your drain plug.
Go to your parts store and get a drain pan, some good oil (Mobil, Valvoline, etc.), a good oil filter, oil filter wrench for your car, rags, a socket and ratchet that fits your drain plug. The ramps are my fav, but always buy jacks/ramps that are rated higher than the weight of your vehicle. You'll save lots of money and peace of mind 'cause you know you did it right, dude.
My best time is about 10 minutes or less. Always check everything when your done, start the car and run it at about 2,000 RPM for 15 seconds (builds oil pressure), let it idle a sec, turn it off and verify oil level and that there are no leaks.

hydraulic floor jack pumps up but goes back down?
i have a jack i have cleaned all the balls and it still wont hold or even pump up fast keeps going down what do i do
the balls are clean and dirt free have taken everything apart and cleaned still no lift or hold
Sounds more like the seals, or sealing part, of the jack that you turn to lock it out so you can jack up the car and then turn to release the jack to lower the car, are worn out, damaged, or the sealing seat/surface is pitted/damaged. Maybe it isn't turning all the way in from some damaged threads or something in the way.
There should also be some springs for the check balls that may have broken or are too weak to hold properly. Anything that is a rubber/neoprene seal may have a tear/crack that you can't see, but under pressure may become evident as when you try to use the jack. Maybe replacing them all would be the best solution if you can't see it, or getting a new jack.
