Is it time to buy a new oil-filled air heater?
I've had this oil-filled air heater for about 5 years now. It's about 3 feet high and stays on the floor where i can adjust the temperature and stuff so I can warm up the room. Since there's oil in it, do I need to worry about buying a new heater soon? Does the oil burn out or something after X amount of years?

What is Fluorescent Lighting?
Understanding how fluorescent light tubes work begins with a basic understanding of how light is produced. The basic unit of light is the light photon, which is released by an atom when its electrons become energized. As you may know, electrons are negatively charged particles that orbit around an atom’s positively charged nucleus. Electrons have different levels of energy, and move when energy is gained or lost by the atom. When heat passes energy to an atom, electrons quickly shift to another orbital, and almost instantaneously jump back to their original positions. As the return jump takes place, extra energy can be released in the form of a light photon, thus creating light.
We have all heard that fluorescent bulbs are more efficient than incandescent ones, but why? Fluorescent bulbs utilize a more energy efficient process of producing the light that we see. The main difference between incandescent lighting and fluorescent lighting is in the process of stimulating the atoms. Incandescent light bulbs excite atoms through the introduction of heat, resulting in an excess of unused heat energy. Fluorescent light bulbs, on the other hand, utilize a chemical reaction to excite atoms without the same excess heat energy. Both types of bulbs create ultraviolet light, which is not visible to humans. But only fluorescent bulbs utilize a substance that converts the ultraviolet light to visible light, resulting in less wasted energy.
An ordinary fluorescent lamp is a tube shaped glass shell with an electrode on each end for connecting to the electrical source. Phosphor powder lines the inside of the tube, and a small amount of mercury and an inert gas are contained within it. When current flows to and between the electrodes, electrons travel the length of the tube, creating energy that converts part of the mercury to a gas. As some of the moving atoms and electrons make contact with the mercury atoms, electrons become excited, jump to a new orbital, and emit light photons as they return to the original orbital.
However, the light created by this chemical reaction is mostly in the ultraviolet range, which again is not comprehended by the human eye. The phosphor powder lining the fluorescent lamp serves the important purpose of converting the light to visible light. When the light photons created from the chemical reaction collide with a phosphor, the energy excites the phosphor’s electrons, thus emitting visible light. Phosphors are the reason for the white light we typically see from fluorescent lights.
The popularity of fluorescent lighting is on the rise as consumers are becoming more environmentally conscious and are looking for energy saving solutions. Once widespread mainly in large office buildings and schools, the fluorescent bulb is now manufactured with a standard bulb base making it compatible with more common home light fixtures.

What is the lowest wattage compact fluorescent bulb you can buy?
I would like a 25W or lower incandescent equivalent compact fluorescent and can't seem to find anything lower than 40W incandescent equivalent which is too bright for my taste in my bathroom fixture which takes three bulbs.

High Efficiency Oil Removal Filter
Installation: Prefilter to desiccant and membrane dryers, afterfilter to refrigerated dryers and stand-alone oil removal at the point-of-use of compressed air.

Maximum Efficiency Oil Removal Filter
Installation: Prefilter to desiccant and membrane dryers with a Grade C prefilter, oil-free air applications.
Design: Two-stage filtration with a first stage of a coated, closed-cell foam sleeve which acts as a prefilter and flow disperser. Second stage has in-depth coalescing fiber media which coalesces fine oil aerosols. Includes an outer coated, closed cell foam sleeve.
Performance*: Handles bulk liquid water inlet loads to 100 ppm w/w and provides 0.0008 ppm oil aerosol removal and 0.01 micron solid particulate separation.
Oil Vapor Removal Filter
Installation: Afterfilter to high efficiency liquid oil removal filters for true oil-free applications.
Design: Two-stage filtration with a generously-sized first stage of a stabilized bed of carbon particles which remove the majority of the oil vapor. Second stage has multiple layers of fiber media with bonded microfine carbon particles which remove the remaining oil vapors. Includes an outer-coated, closed cell foam sleeve which prevents fiber migration.
Performance**: No liquid should be present at filter inlet. Provides 0.003 ppm w/w oil (as a vapor) removal and 0.01 micron solid particulate separation.

Filtration only to the level required by each compressed air application will minimize pressure drop and resultant energy consumption.
Elements should also be replaced as indicated by pressure differential to minimize pressure drop and energy consumption, and should be checked at least annually.

Who establishes quality industry standards for filters?
ISO 8573.1 was developed in 1992 by ISO (International Organization for Standardization) to help plant engineers specify desired compressed air quality globally by providing “Quality Classes” for solid particulates, humidity and oil. Quality classes provide engineers with an internationally accepted unit of measure.
A typical pharmaceutical plant, for example, would have a compressed air specification of ISO Quality Classes 1.2.1. This is equivalent to 0.1 micron particulate filtration, -40°F (-40°C) dew point, and 0.008 ppm (0.01 mg/m3) oil filtration. No matter what language is spoken and what unit of measure is used, using ISO 8573.1 Air Quality Classes ensures that your factory will get the compressed air quality you specified.

what is the best product to make your house smell good? (ie: candles, oil warmers, air fresheners etc.)?
I have a candle warmer and I've put candles on it (salt city and yankee) but the scent doesn't seem to diffuse through the room. I also have air fresheners but i haven't been too happy with them either. Do oil warmers work better? bath and body works air fresheners? glade scented candles? Also, what is your favorite scent? thanks!

What is the sequence of events in a vehicle when the air bag inflates due to impact?
by events I mean:
brakes applied,ignition off, etc.
SRS (airbags) deploy when a vehicle reaches set negative acceleration parameters programmed into the computer, meaning the moment the vehicle comes into contact with another object the sensor/arming and control module calculates vehicle speed, point of impact and loss of speed all in a few milliseconds. If all of these factors meet certain criteria programmed into the computer then the airbag deploys. This is why the airbag does not deploy when being driven slowly, a rear collision, a rollover or dropping off a curb. Most if not all modern SRS have to be 'armed', (the ignition must be on) unlike the early days when Ford systems were armed at all times.

Can I uses a steel hose splicer in an automotive air conditioner system?
I have a '99 Chevy Astro Van AWD /w rear A/C. The low pressure line (hose) returning from from the evaporator in the back has a cut in it. Replacing the whole thing is insanely expensive and probably involves pulling the engine! Anyhow I am going to try to splice the line. Can I use a steel hose splicer, or is there a problem with using steel parts, will it corrode or something?
I see no reason why you can't repair this line by installing a flare type brass coupling - a compression fitting isn't recommended on a steel line.
The maximum pressure on this low side line will rarely exceed 100 psi.
