Bolt extractor broke off?
I was extracting a bolt with a bolt extractor but the bolt extractor broke off inside the bolt, Ive tried drilling the broken piece inside the bolt with a regular drill bit but no luck, what can I do?
Diamond drill will not work...Easy outs are too hard. How large is the broken bolt (dia) ?If it's large enough maybe you can use a Hole saw....otherwise you are Scr- - - -

How To Install A Hot Water Tank
Use these instructions to install a system under the sink that provides hot water without the wait. Some high-end models even come with a water filter system and cold water dispenser.
Step 1: Shut Off the Water and Power
Clean out the area under the sink to make room for the tank.
Next, shut off the water at the water heater.
Turn off the power at the breaker. If your water heater is gas, turn the control to the 'Pilot' setting.
Step 2: Drain the Lines
Drain the water lines. Turn on the faucet at the sink where you are working, as well as an outside faucet.
Step 3: Mark the Sink
Make a dimple into the sink where the dispenser will be placed, using a drill set and hammer.
Step 4: Drill a Hole, and Smooth the Edges
Using a cordless drill and a stainless steel bit, drill a 3/4" hole into the sink.
A slug buster can also be used to cut the hole. To do so, take the cutting wheal off the slug buster. Place the slug buster into the hole and then reattach the cutting wheel underneath. Hand tighten the nut on the top side of the slug buster, then use a wrench to continue tightening until you hear a 'pop'. Remove the slug buster.
Use an emery cloth to smooth the edges.
Safety Note: Always wear safety glasses when cutting metal.
Step 5: Place the Dispenser In to the Sink
Place the seal ring to the underside of the dispenser.
Place the dispenser into the sink.
Attach the mounting ring from the underside of the dispenser over the threaded rod.
Add the hex nut, then tighten to secure.
Step 6: Connect the Water lines
Loosen the compression nut at the cold water stop under the sink and then remove the line.
Install a double compression stop to the water line and then reattach the lines to the sink.
Step 7: Mark a Spot for the Tank
Position the tank close to the plumbing and the electrical outlet. While holding the tank in place, draw a line on the wall to mark the top of the tank.
Step 8: Hang the Tank, and Connect the System
Attach the mounting bracket 1" from the line using a drill bit and 1" wood screws. Hang the tank on the bracket.
Push the blue tubing into the quick-connect fitting on the tank. Slip the clear vinyl tube over the fitting in the middle. Connect the larger tube over the last barbed fitting.
Step 9: Mount the Filter, and Add Lines
Attach the mounting bracket near the tank and then attach the filter.
Connect the 3/8" tubing from the outlet side of the filter to the 3/8" Y fitting.
Add the clear vent line to the filter
Step 10: Attach the Double Compression Stop
Attach a compression nut over the 3/8" tubing. Then, attach to the double compression stop installed at the existing water line and tighten.
Step 11: Turn on the Water and Finish Installation
Turn the water back on at the water heater.
Open the water stops under the sink, then check for leaks.
Open the cold water faucet at the new dispenser to wash out the filter. Turn off the cold water faucet and then open the hot water faucet until water begins to flow.
Plug in the tank.

I need a face plate for my lathe.?
I have a old lathe that I want to make bowls and plates with. My questions is how do I attach the wood to the lathe. It came with this knob looking thing that digs into the wood and the other end holds it in place. To turn bowls I need an open face on the turning side the knob comes off when you remove a hex nut that holds it tight, there are no threads on the spindle and it is a 1/2 inch. What do I need to get and where can I get it .

An "old" lathe is a relative term. Like it could be 20 to 80 years old? Anyway, I would do a google search to see if the manufacturer is still around and if they are, email them with your model number. Ask if they have a faceplate that will interchange with your machine. If they don't, try ebay or even a machine shop to have one built for your lathe. The good thing about having one built, is you can set your own specifications and have exactly what you want!

Repairing a Leaky Toilet Without a Plumber
A leaky toilet can lead to other major issues such as it can damage the flooring and sub flooring. More severe problems can also damage ceilings and framings below. Leaks can be caused at flush valve or fill valve. However, sometimes, it may also be caused due to hairline tank cracks at those locations.
These are very severe problems, and in these cases, you may need to replace the tank or possibly even the entire toilet. We have tried to explore a few possible reasons for the leaks, and the procedure to fix it. In order to find out the reasons for the leaks, first tighten all the connections.
Dry everything with a towel and then carefully examine the source of the leaks. Once you have determined the source, you can proceed and fix it using the following steps.
Loose Nuts under Tanks
Tools Required:
Flathead screwdriver
Adjustable wrench
Procedure
1. Using the flathead screwdriver, hold the bolt steady.
2. At the same time, tighten the nuts on the underside of the tank by using the adjustable wrench.
3. Check if the water still leaks. If no, that is great. If yes, follow the steps below.
4. Holding the bolt steady (as in step one) using the adjustable wrench, remove the nuts, and change the washer with a proper-size new washer for the bolt.
If Water is Leaking at the Fill Valve
Tools Required:
Wrench
Procedure
1. Turn off the water supply to the toilet.
2. Drain the tank by flushing it
3. Using a wrench, disconnect the supply-tube coupling nut.
4. Remove the mounting nut of the fill valve.
5. Lift out the fill valve
6. Clean its gasket and washer
7. Carefully examine if it is damaged or dried out. If so, you have no other option but to replace it.
8. Hold the valve vertical, and carefully position it in the center of the hole.
9. Tighten the mounting nut. Make sure not to over-tighten it, as it can crack the porcelain.
10. Reconnect the supply tube
11. Turn on the water supply to the toilet
12. If the problem persists, tighten the mounting nut a little more.
If Water is Leaking at the Flush Valve
Tools

Soapy sponge
Procedure
1. Follow the steps 1-3 as discussed above
2. Remove the mounting bolts of the tanks. For this, you can use a large standard screwdriver on the bolt, and a socket wrench on the nut.
3. Put the tank upside down.
4. Pull or twist off the rubber spud washer.
5. Unscrew the large locking nut from the flush valve using a spud wrench.
6. Put the tank aside. However, make sure that you place it on a bath mat or similar padding. This way, you can protect both the flooring and the tank.
7. Remove the flush valve.
8. Take out the beveled cone washer from the flush valve.
9. If they are in poor condition, replace them. If no, just use a soapy sponge and clean them.
10. Reinstall the tank, as discussed above. However, make sure that when you tighten the bolt, you have somebody to hold it level and plumb.
11. Remember, the beveled side of the cone washer must face the inside of the tank, while the beveled side of the spud washer must face the bowl.
Hence, follow the above simple steps and you can do it yourself. However, make sure that you have the necessary plumbing tools available to you.

You might as well use a torch because your gonna have to replace the nut and stud anyway. They do make special sockets. I have them at my shop but they are pointless.

Why did america develop a harder standard then the metric system for bolts and wrenches?
The metric is easy to understand 1 2 3 4 the higher number the bigger but other SAE one is less easy.
Why was it developed?
Well i own all the sizes of both and metric seems easier maybe its just me and you can use thread pitch guage as far as bolts are concerned. Most vehical lug nuts are metric.
It may be because im used to working on imports and not american so I have to get used to SAE standards.
I can see you've never had to chase down or replace up to three different thread pitches for some random size metric diameter or locate hardened metric studs, bolts, nuts, star and lock washers. I'll call you when I'm looking all over hell for different length metric bolts with up to three thread pitches. Nobody caries this trash, not even Fastenal which is all pretty week sister stuff from China anyway!
Granted, the USA is the only place in the world that HAD standard SAE - everything. In my own opinion it's a freaking tool company conspiracy to sell more tools. If Obama would like to straighten out the car industry every car or truck sold in America would have standard SAE everything tomorrow.
