difference between trickle charger and battery tender?
im leaving my car(infiniti g37) in the garage for 4 months,which work better?
You can get trickle chargers that will "turn off" or if you want to use the correct terminology - "cycle" to keep the battery charged.
The best bet is to ensure the electrolyte level is correct, loosen the vent plugs on top of the battery and connect charger.
Another hint if you are going to leave a battery for that long is to disconnect from the car, the smallest current draw over that period of time can draw power (radio memory etc).
If it is removed from the vehicle ensure the battery is placed on a timber bench or timber block on the garage floor in a well ventilated area, cold cement or concrete will also discharge a battery.

Can I use a 12 volt battery with multiple devices? My assumption is that, as long as they are all devices which require 12v to function (not higher or lower), they should all work fine, although they will drain the battery quicker. Am I right?

In some respects, life as a laptop-carrying frequent flyer has gotten a little easier. Exhibit A: Though far from commonplace, it's not freakishly bizarre anymore to find a power port at your airplane seat–even in coach. Virgin America and American Airlines are among the most generous airlines in terms of supplying power ports to passengers.
But it's still way too easy to run out of juice in flight, or during the course of a long day away from a wall socket. Here are some tips for keeping your laptop running as long as possible when you're on the go.
Ditch the Peripherals, Tweak Settings
When you're on the road, you can significantly conserve battery power by dimming your laptop screen's brightness. Make sure there are no CDs or DVDs sitting in your optical drive, and don't connect any USB peripherals–all power hogs. Turn off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and 3G networking (you have to do that in flight anyhow).
Also, tweak your laptop's power settings to conserve your battery. For example, in Windows Vista, go to Control Panel, Power Options and select the "Power saver" setting You can adjust the "Power saver" settings, if you want, or create your own power plan.
Buy a Second Battery
Many laptops today can run off two batteries. When the juice from the primary battery runs dry, the auxiliary kicks in. In most cases, the primary laptop battery comes with the laptop; the second is an optional purchase. For example, HP's EliteBook 6930p promises up to 24 hours of use from one charge–but only if you attach an optional, external 12-cell ultra-capacity battery pack ($189) as a secondary battery to augment the laptop's internal, primary six-cell battery (There are other requirements, too, such as the need to downgrade to Windows XP.) Keep in mind that second battery packs, sometimes also called battery slices often add bulk and weight to your laptop.
Another option: Buy a portable battery pack. I like the Duracell Powersource Mobile 100 (about $110 and up online) because it lets you power a variety of devices, such as laptops, cell phones, portable DVD players, and video cameras, using their own power cords. By comparison, some portable power rechargers require special tips or cables to recharge your gear. The Duracell Powersource can also recharge two USB devices simultaneously with your laptop.
Get to Know Battery Specs
When buying a new laptop or a second laptop battery, pay attention to the power specs. Generally speaking, you need to know how many cells the battery has. The more cells, the longer the battery can last on a charge. For example, a 12-cell battery is designed to last much longer than a six-cell battery. Alternatively, the specs might list Watt-Hour rating, or WHr. The higher the number, the longer your battery should last. Some computer makers, such as Apple, describe laptop batteries in terms of WHr, while others use cells.
Check for Power Ports Before You Fly
Before I book a flight, I find out the type of aircraft I'll be on. Then I jump over to Seatguru.com, which offers helpful seating configuration maps for most domestic and international airlines. The black dots on seat maps indicate the presence of in-seat power ports. Keep in mind, though, that sometimes (especially in coach) you may have to share one power port with your neighbor.

How to tell if its the battery or alternator?
2000 Ford Focus SE Car died today and replaced the battery and everything in the dash was brighter and the car started immediately, but could I still need a new alternator? Also the battery was badly corroded and a jumpstart wouldnt even work. The car is actually driving better than it has been for a while but I'm still worried the alternator might drain the battery if its bad. Please let me know asap!! Thanks

Jumps may not work if you have a bad connection, a totally dead battery, or corrosion, or cheap cables.

When i start training for football again at the end of the season which two types of workouts would be better?
to work out one specific part of my body completely one day and move on to another the next time i work out that week. example tuesday i do a complete leg work out, thursday i do chest and back, and saturday i do bi's tri's and shoulders. or should i mix each part of my work out into each day. example bench squat and do some curls one day and another do power cleans inverted bench and some close grip bench.
See your coach. Every coach I've ever had (or my kids ever had....) gave me complete off-season workout plans at the end of the season.
Even better, go out for another sport like wrestling in the winter, and track in the spring. Its a lot easier than going it alone.
At my son's school, the boys were expected to be in the school weight room off-season if they weren't out for another sport.

How can i charge the battery in emergency situations of my Nokia set?
Some phone shops, some electronics shops and some "dollar shop" stores sell hand-operated chargers, around $10.
They produce electricity with a dynamo. You just turn the handle to operate it. It takes about half an hour for a full charge though!
They come with half a dozen different plugs, to suit common makes of phones. Nokia of course is included.

If a 1000 cold cranking amp battery can run a 1000 amp load for 30 seconds how long could the same battery run a 138 amp load?
If it can run a 1000 amp load for 30 seconds, it should be able to run a 138 amp load for 217 seconds. An amp is a coulomb/second. If you have 1000 q/s * 30 seconds = 30000 q
30000 q/ 138 q/s = 217
In practical application it will probably go for longer because batteries aren't perfect devices, and the batteries ability to produce current is due to a chemical reaction, the more slowly it progresses the more complete the reaction.

Newair Acp-1300e Portable Ac – Just in Time for Summer!
When it comes to beating the summer heat, most people look to air conditioners to stay cool. The majority of air conditioning units are situated in a window and are usually installed in convention single- and double- hung windows, but some models can be installed in sliding windows as well. In addition, some homes are also equipped with central air conditioning systems. These air conditioners work from a central location to distribute air within a home or building. The only problem with these two types of air conditioning systems lies in the fact that they require permanent installation or may not be suitable for apartments or condominiums – areas where there are space or installation constraints.
With that said, a portable air conditioner is the solution. Primarily used for spot or supplemental cooling, portable air conditioners are great for cooling individual rooms, offices, or even computer server rooms because they can be moved from room to room and offer quick installation without lifting or damaging window sills. Nonetheless, when choosing a portable air conditioner, the key is to find a unit that’s not too small to cool the room and not large enough to waste energy.
As such, our product team has been testing a range of the most popular portable air conditioners on the market, and we’ve come across NewAir’s most recent product offering: the NewAir ACP-1300E portable AC. Featuring an ample 13,000 BTUs of cooling power, this unit was not only powerful and affordable, but also chock full of exciting features. We tested this unit on a muggy Los Angeles afternoon in a 200 square foot bedroom of an apartment. Here is our review:
First Impression
According to NewAir, the AC-1300E portable air conditioner is very similar to the ACP-1400E, but with a newly styled body. The sleek white finish made the unit unobtrusive and the elongated body design was perfect for corner placement in our bedroom. The VFD screen was easy to ready and provided bright light and clear contrast. We were also pleasantly surprised to learn that the screen lit up in the dark. Large, built-in casters let us move the unit from the bedroom and down the hall with ease, while the remote control allowed us to control the NewAir ACP-1400E from 50 feet across the room. Moreover, we were also happy to note that this unit used a standard 120-vot household outlet.
Cooling Power
The NewAir ACP-1300E featured 13,000 BTUs of cooling power and this was more than enough to cool our bedroom. Auto-evaporative technology eliminated the need to empty any drain buckets, and we found that the exhaust hose was wider and larger in diameter than those found in other competing models. In turn, this resulted in more efficient cooling and better airflow.
Dehumidification
In addition to providing cooling, this portable air conditioner also acted as a dehumidifier due to the refrigeration cycle. The NewAir ACP-1300E had an extremely large dehumidification capacity of up to 120 pints per day while using only 950 watts /10.8 amps of power.
Nose Level
While not completely silent, the NewAir ACP-1300E portable air conditioner was very quiet even on the highest fan setting (less than 52 decibels). We had the television on with the air conditioner running and found that it did not disturb our indoor environment in the least.
Built-In Air Purifier
The NewAir ACP-1300E was definitely multifunctional because it also included a built-in air purification system. Large airborne particles first passed through the washable air filter, while smaller particles were attracted onto electrostatic plates via the ionizer. Lastly, to address noxious household odors, an activated carbon was able to aid with odor adsorption.
In closing, we found the NewAir ACP-1300E to be a great portable air conditioner that was perfect for cooling personal spaces. With so many wonderful features, this unit proved to be a great buy.

Is it possible to drill directly into a PVC drain pipe to create another drain?
I have a portable AC unit which spits out about five gallons of water per day (I live in Florida) which I have been emptying into a bucket.
My goal is to create a drain that the AC unit can drain directly into. I have located a drain pipe (coming from a bathroom faucet) that I can easily access.
My question is, can I just drill a hole into the drain pipe and insert and seal w/ pvc glue a smaller PVC pipe which I could then hook the AC unit up to? I figured this would be much easier than having to plumb in a T joint (I think thats what its called).
If this is possible, would I need to make a trap or could I just have it directly hooked up?

Yes you can do this.
YES you need a trap to prevent the back-flow of methane gas.
I wouldn't do this if you have a septic system; it invites a potential problem [although minimal] with the drainfield and the unknowns of the effects of two bacterial/fungus composition

Tips Of Battery Charger Selection And Operation
Selecting the correct charger depends primarily on the design of your deep cycle battery, so the first thing you need to do is determine the construction type of your battery. There are a few popular types these days, and each has its own unique characteristics. One charger will not work for all types, so this step is very important. The four most common types of deep cycle batteries are wet cell, gel cell, absorbed glass mat, and the valve regulated lead-acid type, or VRLA.
Most people are familiar with the wet cell battery. Just like an automotive battery, this type has a liquid electrolyte that fills internal compartments, or cells, in which lead plates are hung. This is the most common type of deep cycle battery and is available off-the-shelf at most sporting goods and major department stores. The AGM (absorbed glass mat) construction uses a woven mesh material to absorb the electrolyte and keep it in constant contact with the lead compound. It is a sealed design and considered maintenance free, unlike some of the wet-cell batteries. It is, however, quite similar to the wet-cell and can use the same type of charger. The VRLA is also of sealed construction, but its main differentiation is that is uses an internal valve to vent the gases created during the charging cycle. It also can use the same type of charger as the wet-cell batteries.
A multiple stage deep cycle battery charger is used for the three battery types listed above. This charger comes in many sizes, so you do have to match the correct charger for your size battery. If you have more than one battery installed in your power supply, then you will need a multiple bank type charger. This is actually two, three, or even four chargers built into one unit. Depending on what country you live in, you also need to match the input voltage of the charger to the correct voltage of your service. If price is a major factor in your purchasing decision, you will find many basic deep cycle chargers available off-the-shelf. These will be lower priced, manually operated, and with few special features built in. You will need to start and stop this charger manually in most cases, and unhook the connectors when not in use. You will also need to manually set the dials and switches on the front panel for each operation and different battery that you charge.
If you are maintaining a higher quality battery, you may want to consider purchasing a "smart charger" instead. The smart charger is simply a computer controlled charger that actually takes readings from the battery it is connected to and then sends the proper charging voltages and currents necessary to provide a complete charge. Many of the smart chargers also have a built-in equalizing charge that kicks in after the primary charging is completed. This equalizing process evens out the charges in the individual battery cells.
The fourth type of battery, the gel cell, is considered a deep-deep cycle battery as it is designed to for extended cycle times and consequently, longer recharge times. The electrolyte inside the gel cell battery has been mixed with a thickening agent to solidify the solution. A "smart charger" is the preferred choice for maintaining the gel cell, but primarily because the gel cell is most susceptible to damage from over charging or improper charging. This type of battery can endure higher ambient temperatures that a wet-cell battery and can provide extended operating times that other battery types, but it does require special equipment to maintain it properly.
A good quality charger can take much of the guesswork out of properly maintaining your deep cycle marine battery. Whether you use a low-cost basic charger or a state-of-art smart charger, following a strict battery maintenance routine can ensure many years of trouble-free life from your trolling motor battery and other deep cycle batteries that you use.

Can you guide me in choosing an automotive battery charger?
My hubby asked for a battery charger for Christmas. I know he needs one for the lawn mower battery but also for the camper and boat. I know the battery on the camper is a deep cycle and the one on the boat is a marine battery (is that deep cycle too?) He mentioned something about keeping the battery maintained.
Is there a charger out there that I can get for both types of batteries? One that will also be a maintenance charger?
Or do I need to get one for the regular batteries and a second for the deep-cycle batteries?
I've tried looking at Sears, Northern and JC Whitney online but I don't know what I'm looking for. I'd like to stay under $200, if possible.

i own a repair shop,and you need one that will do a battery as small as a 2 amp battery which is what a lawn mower battery is,,go to advance auto parts they have a nice one for around 70 bucks,that will do all different types of battery's including the deep cycle battery's also,,i own one,and use it all the time,and have never had any problems from it,,and i think its on sale right now also,,good luck,,just tell them what you want ,and they,ll know which one you need,,good luck with it,i hope this help,s,,have a good x-mas.

Finding Solar Power Batteries For Your Home
Just as a solar power system in your home would need deep cycle batteries to store energy for later use so would a wind turbine or windmill. The draw back with the batteries is their expense, finding a way to save on these would be a great benefit to the homeowner. You need them or you will not have any standby electricity for extended cloudy conditions.
You may be paying up to $250 per battery for some batteries, you can get those nice sealed batteries that do not have to be vented outside. Otherwise you can get deep cycle batteries like used in golf carts. These are cheaper but when you need a bank of them the cost adds up.
A better alternative if you are short of cash is to check around at the golf course maintenance facilities, boat yards or anywhere golf carts may be in use. They may have some old batteries laying around that they would be glad to get rid of. There may be nothing wrong with them, they may need to be reconditioned to get them back in shape.
There are a few methods to recondition batteries that you can do at home. One is to replace the fluid in the batteries cells with EDTA which is ethylene diamine tetra acetic. This can be added to the batteries cells that show a weak reading on a electrolyte Hydrometer.

what does a tool battery do for psp?
i've seen this device at codejunkies.com where you can turn your regular psp battery into a tool battery and back again. what does it do? would it allow me to run emulators and other things on it from my memory stick because i've tried intsalling custom firmware on it from stylemo.com but it just wont work on my psp with 3.71 firmware which i've had since x-mas.
it sets the psp in service mode so you can install custom firmware. aka a pandora battery. with the magic mem stick it will allow you to run emus
