The Leak Testing of Refills
Pens and refills are necessities in our daily life and business. The refill leakage will affect the regular application, but contaminate our clothes as well. Then, how to guarantee a good leak-resistance performance? Labthink, as the excellent testing instrument and service provider, provides the relevant standards, methods and instruments as follows:
1. The Leakage Tester for Refills
According to relevant roller ball pen and refill standards, such as QB/T 1655-2006, the testing instrument is called redactor. Labthink MFY-01 Leak Tester is such to test the leak property under pressure reducing principle and has been widely applied.
2. Testing Methods and Procedure
A. Adjust the pressure reducing speed of MFY-01 Leak Tester to 10-12KPa/min.
B. Take the refills with half ink as the specimen.
C. Take off the pen cup, and insert the specimen with its head downward into the pen-stand, and place into the vacuum tank. Then, put on the lid of the vacuum tank.
D. Turn on the compressed air source, set the vacuum degree and vacuum maintaining time (10 minutes is a regulation). Take care of the different vacuum degree for different kinds of refills.
E. Start testing, when vacuum degree achieving the set value, MFY-01 Leak Tester will record the vacuum degree as programmed, and test whether the refill leaks or not.
The above is a brief introduction of the leak testing of refills. Labthink is willing to have more and thorough exchanges on quality control, testing item and method of pen industry.

A Role of Sensors for Industrial Applications
Since a significant change involves an exchange of energy, sensors can be classified according to the type of energy transfer that they detect. Thermal temperature sensors: thermometers, thermocouples, temperature sensitive resistors (thermistors and resistance temperature detectors), bi-metal thermometers and thermostats
heat sensors: bolometer, calorimeter
Electromagnetic electrical resistance sensors: ohmmeter, multimeter
Electrical current sensors: galvanometer, ammeter
Electrical voltage sensors: leaf electroscope, voltmeter
Electrical power sensors: watt-hour meters
Magnetism sensors: magnetic compass, fluxgate compass, magnetometer, Hall Effect device,
Metal detectors
Mechanical pressure sensors: altimeter, barometer, barograph, pressure gauge, air speed indicator, rate of climb indicator, variometer
gas and liquid flow sensors: flow sensor, anemometer, flow meter, gas meter, water meter, mass flow sensor mechanical sensors: acceleration sensor, position sensor, selsyn, switch, strain gauge
Chemical sensors detect the presence of specific chemicals or classes of chemicals. Examples include oxygen sensors, also known as lambda sensors, ion-selective electrodes, pH glass electrodes, and redox electrodes.
Optical and radiation electromagnetic time-of-flight. Generate an electromagnetic impulse, broadcast it, and then measure the time a reflected pulse takes to return. Commonly known as - RADAR (Radio Detection And Ranging) are now accompanied by the analogous LIDAR (Light Detection And Ranging. See following line), all being electromagnetic waves. Acoustic sensors are a special case in that a pressure transducer is used to generate a compression wave in a fluid medium (air or water)
light time-of-flight. Used in modern surveying equipment, a short pulse of light is emitted and returned by a retro reflector. The return time of the pulse is proportional to the distance and is related to atmospheric density in a predictable way.
Ionizing radiation
Radiation sensors: Geiger counter, dosimeter, Scintillation counter, Neutron detection
Subatomic particle sensors: Particle detector, scintillator, Wire chamber, cloud chamber, bubble chamber
Non-ionising radiation
light sensors, or photo detectors, including semiconductor devices such as photocells, photodiodes, phototransistors, CCDs, and Image sensors; vacuum tube devices like photo-electric tubes, photomultiplier tubes; and mechanical instruments such as the Nichols radiometer. Infra-red sensor, especially used as occupancy sensor for lighting and environmental controls.
Proximity sensor- A type of distance sensor but less sophisticated. Only detects a specific proximity. May be optical - combination of a photocell and LED or laser. Applications in cell phones, paper detector in photocopiers, auto power standby/shutdown mode in notebooks and other devices. May employ a magnet and a Hall effect device.
scanning laser- A narrow beam of laser light is scanned over the scene by a mirror. A photocell sensor located at an offset responds when the beam is reflected from an object to the sensor, whence the distance is calculated by triangulation.
focus. A large aperture lens may be focused by a servo system. The distance to an in-focus scene element may be determined by the lens setting.
binocular. Two images gathered on a known baseline are brought into coincidence by a system of mirrors and prisms. The adjustment is used to determine distance. Used in some cameras (called range-finder cameras) and on a larger scale in early battleship range-finder
interferometer. Interference fringes between transmitted and reflected lightwaves produced by a coherent source such as a laser are counted and the distance is calculated. Capable of extremely high precision.
Scintillometers measure atmospheric optical disturbances.
Acoustic sound sensors: microphones, hydrophones, seismometers.
Acoustic: uses ultrasound time-of-flight echo return. Used in mid 20th century polaroid cameras and applied also to robotics. Even older systems like Fathometers (and fish finders) and other 'Tactical Active' Sonar (Sound Navigation And Ranging) systems in naval applications which mostly use audible sound frequencies.
Other types motion sensors: radar gun, speedometer, tachometer, odometer, occupancy sensor, turn coordinator
Orientation sensors: gyroscope, artificial horizon, ring laser gyroscope
distance sensor (non contacting) Several technologies can be applied to sense distance: magnetostriction
Non Initialized systems
Gray code strip or wheel- a number of photo detectors can sense a pattern, creating a binary number. The gray code is a mutated pattern that ensures that only one bit of information changes with each measured step, thus avoiding ambiguities.
Initialized systems
These require starting from a known distance and accumulate incremental changes in measurements.
Quadrature wheel- An disk-shaped optical mask is driven by a gear train. Two photocells detecting light passing through the mask can determine a partial revolution of the mask and the direction of that rotation.
whisker sensor- A type of touch sensor and proximity sensor.
Classification of measurement errors
A good sensor obeys the following rules:
the sensor should be sensitive to the measured property
the sensor should be insensitive to any other property
the sensor should not influence the measured property
In the ideal situation, the output signal of a sensor is exactly proportional to the value of the measured property. The gain is then defined as the ratio between output signal and measured property. For example, if a sensor measures temperature and has a voltage output, the gain is a constant with the unit [V/K].
If the sensor is not ideal, several types of deviations can be observed:
The gain may in practice differ from the value specified. This is called a gain error.
Since the range of the output signal is always limited, the output signal will eventually clip when the measured property exceeds the limits. The full scale range defines the outmost values of the measured property where the sensor errors are within the specified range.
If the output signal is not zero when the measured property is zero, the sensor has an offset or bias. This is defined as the output of the sensor at zero input.
If the gain is not constant, this is called nonlinearity. Usually this is defined by the amount the output differs from ideal behavior over the full range of the sensor, often noted as a percentage of the full range.
If the deviation is caused by a rapid change of the measured property over time, there is a dynamic error. Often, this behavior is described with a bode plot showing gain error and phase shift as function of the frequency of a periodic input signal.
If the output signal slowly changes independent of the measured property, this is defined as drift.
Long term drift usually indicates a slow degradation of sensor properties over a long period of time. Noise is a random deviation of the signal that varies in time.
Hysteresis is an error caused by the fact that the sensor not instantly follows the change of the property being measured, and therefore involves the history of the measured property.
If the sensor has a digital output, the signal is discrete and is essentially an approximation of the measured property. The approximation error is also called digitization error.
If the signal is monitored digitally, limitation of the sampling frequency also causes a dynamic error.
Sensor may to some extent be sensitive for other properties than the property being measured. For example, most sensors are influenced by the temperature of their environment.
All these deviations can be classified as systematic errors or random errors. Systematic errors can sometimes be compensated for by means of some kind of calibration strategy. Noise is a random error that can be reduced by signal processing, such as filtering, usually at the expense of the dynamic behaviour of the sensor.
Resolution
The resolution of a sensor is the smallest change it can detect in the quantity that it is measuring. Often in a digital display, the least significant digit will fluctuate, indicating that changes of that magnitude are only just resolved. The resolution is related to the precision with which the measurement is made. For example, a scanning probe (a fine tip near a surface collects an electron tunneling current) can resolve atoms and molecules.
Biological
All living organisms contain biological sensors with functions similar to those of the mechanical devices described. Most of these are specialized cells that are sensitive to:
Light, motion, temperature, magnetic fields, gravity, humidity, vibration, pressure, electrical fields, sound, and other physical aspects of the external environment;
Physical aspects of the internal environment, such as stretch, motion of the organism, and position of appendages (proprioception);
an enormous array of environmental molecules, including toxins, nutrients, and pheromones;
Many aspects of the internal metabolic milieu, such as glucose level, oxygen level, or osmolality;
an equally varied range of internal signal molecules, such as hormones, neurotransmitters, and cytokines;
and even the differences between proteins of the organism itself and of the environment or alien creatures.
Artificial sensors that mimic biological sensors by using a biological sensitive component, are called biosensors.

Can an oxygen sensor stop your car from starting correctly?
I got my car scanned and the system said i had a bad o2 sensor. can that be the reason y my car isnt starting correctly? also i have been having problems with my fuel gauge. it seems to stay on F until i stop my car completely then it levels off right SOMETIMES. what can that be?
1999 Cavalier
O2 sensor data is not monitored during starting, so no, it does not affect starting. If that's the only code you have, and have a starting problem, then you might have a coolant temp sensor malfunction, telling the computer the coolant temp is like -40 degrees, which causes the injection system to run extremely rich, which in turn will cause on O2 sensor code to set.
On the fuel gauge problem, the diagnoses is fairly simple with a schematic and multimeter. Most likely the problem is the fuel sender, but get it diagnosed properly so you don't waste money guessing.

Toyota Cars Ready To Roll In NASCAR's Nextel Cup 2007 Season
Toyota cars and the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) made an announcement to confirm Toyota's expansion into the 2007 NASCAR Nextel Cup and Busch Series. Of the various Toyota cars, the Camry model was the chosen automobile for participating in a field of competition.
After three years of Toyota competing as part of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, NASCAR Chairman and CEO Bill France commented, "Toyota's entry into the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series and the NASCAR Busch Series is good for drivers, teams and the fans. This move provides for even more intense competition on the track between drivers and manufacturers, which will provide more excitement and fan interest," he continued. "Toyota's entry also provides more options for drivers and teams, which will increase the competition between manufacturers.
The 2007 year will mark several milestones for Toyota cars, including the company's 50th anniversary in America. As the golden anniversary occurs, so will Toyota's venture into the NASCAR Nextel and Busch series racing. While Toyota drivers and teams have proven to be championship competitors and winners in other series, the manufacturer anxiously awaits to see if the Toyota cars will enjoy the same fate as they branch out into new NASCAR territory. "If you want to compete against the best, in America that means NASCAR," admits Dave Illingworth, senior vice president, chief planning and administrative officer for Toyota Motor Sales, USA., Inc.
A separate announcement, made in late January 2006, detailed the three teams that would be competing behind the wheel of Toyota cars. Bill Davis Racing, Team Red Bull and Michael Waltrip Racing will be the teams sporting the Toyota Camry as the 2007 season kicks off at the Daytona 500 next February. According to TMS corporate manager of marketing communications Kim McCullough, "The response to Toyota's involvement in the Craftsman Truck Series has been very positive, and we look forward to building on the acceptance at the next levels - in both Nextel Cup and Busch racing."
Michael Waltrip, who owns one of the teams to be operating Toyota cars next season, is a Daytona 500 winner times two. Nearly 10 years ago, he formed a race team that was primarily known for it's involvement in the Busch Series. In recent years, however, the team began participating in the Nextel Cup Series on a limited basis and plans to compete regularly during the 2007 season. In fact, plans for ‘Waltrip Racing World' was announced that would feature a high-tech race shop boasting over 125,000 square-feet of race shop space, buildings and housing.

Craftsman Tools "not made in USA"?
I realize that most Craftsman hand tools like wrenches ratchets and sockets are still made in the USA which is good. But it seems like everytime I go to Sears I see more and more China and Taiwan stamped on them. For example I exchanged a pair of Handi-Cut cutters for a new pair. The old worn pair was made in the USA and the new ones are China. Another example is the new industrial wrench set and folding prybar they have look impressive but, "made in Taiwan". The quality looks good and probably works well but its not my point. The point is they are slowly going overseas which is sad to see and people here in the US are losing jobs because of it. Anyone else noticing this??
Yes it has been going on for awhile, just seems like Craftsman is really itching to go totally overseas lately. I agree with otto, definitely a greed thing...
"Answers smartass" is wrong. The unions are not to blame. It is corporate greed. They want the highest profit margin available and having the tools outsourced to "offshore companies" achieves that for them. I noticed the loss of USA made items many years ago. I do my level best to not buy items made elsewhere unless I simply cannot find it.

French public rail trials USB combo ticket system
In an effort to facilitate ticket purchasing, SNCF -- France's public rail system -- will commence a 1,000 user trial of its Weneo smartcard system this Fall. Riders will be able to purchase tickets with the small USB dongles at turnstiles via RFID. Once the balance is depleted, users can refill their accounts by plugging the devices into a computer, whereby they're transported to the SNCF's online hub. Since only the rider's account number is stored in the RFID portion of the smart card, this system allows commuters hassle-free ticket purchasing, all while keeping important information privy from hackers - information that some RFID devices seem to have problems keeping secret. If all goes well, SNCF expects to expand the use of Weneo nationwide by 2010.
VIA
This fall, French public transportation company SNCF intends to begin employing RFID-enabled smart cards with USB connectivity, in order to allow users to plug the cards into a PC or laptop, automatically connect to the SNCF Web site and add funds to the cards from home. Approximately 1,000 SNCF customers will pilot the Weneo smart cards as part of the company's home-payment effort.
The system, known as Weneo ID Smart, is being provided by contactless technology startup firm Neowave. The pilot is part of SNCF's push into contactless payment options for all of the company's customers, either through NFC cards, such as some customers are already utilizing, or via payment devices, such as the Weneo ID Smart.
The Weneo ID pilot will take place in four as-yet-unnamed regions of France. If the system is well received by transit customers, says Joël Eppe, chief of SNCF's Innovation and TechnologiesDepartment, SNFC could expand the solution nationwide in 2010.
SNCF customers currently use contactless payment cards in 10 regions throughout France. Patrons can upload payments onto the cards using contactless payment readers in a particular station, then use the payments for train rides. The cost of each ride is deducted from the cards either by RFID readers deployed in the stations, or by SNCF train staffers carrying handheld interrogators.
Pending a modernization plan benefiting all travelers, the SNCF is aimed at subscribers technophiles TER and RER. It launches a partnership with the company Gemalto and testing a ticket combining innovative USB Flash Drive and Navigo passes.
Its USB to renew a subscription or buy a ticket from any computer connected to the Internet. Connection to RFID as it allows, like the Navigo passes Francilien or card OuRA Lyonnaise, through the turnstiles security stations and travel without contact. The technology used is exactly the same, controllers therefore retain the same devices.
The marketing manager of the transport manufacturer who provides the USB keys, Cyril Villemin, announced a "pilot phase was launched for a period of several months. The SNCF about it wished to communicate has neither the cost nor the date of availability of the device. We know, however, that it will initially be available in 10 regions in which it is already possible to travel without contact. The company rail transport could also launch his side a card reader that will conduct operations from his computer while maintaining its existing card. The latter has the advantage of being fit in any portfolio while the key solution is a USB all-in-one.
It is interesting to see that the SNCF dwell on this innovative technology which allows for smoother traffic in stations, one of pedestrians at the entrances and exits of these remains now to follow the same process on track ...

DN100, such as the A series, then the representative of pipe diameter 114.3mm, if we adopt the B series, is a representative of diameter 108mm. But DN100A on behalf of external diameter of 114.3, DN100B represents the outer diameter of 108.
The pipe wall thickness is usually given in accordance with the label (eg, SCH20, STD, XS), check the relevant standards in the relevant forms, can be found in the actual wall thickness of its representatives.
(2) some of the old design department, still follow this custom, DN × × shall be expressed in metric (B), expressed in inches means that the British system (A series). But under the current circumstances, the latter situation
Conditions, namely, "said inch nominal diameter, generally on behalf of British series (A series)" is usually correct, but the former case is no longer accurate. And most popular approach is. Whether Metric Imperial
Are DN × × said. So, where to DN × × that path but have not yet pointed out that the A series, B series, to be clear of their series with the channel, otherwise an error may occur, such as might mistakenly 114.3 of
Channel 108 into the wrong pipe.
(3) Pipeline common specifications as shown in Schedule 3, which described in detail, nominal diameter actual diameter (sub-A series, B series), different tube labels (such as SCH30, STD) which corresponds to the actual thickness.
3.3 pipe fittings Classification:
Generally speaking, the whole pipeline, in addition to a variety of other accessories straight pipe can be referred to as pipe fittings. But habit, we will elbow, tee, head cap and a variety of trails known as pipe fittings
fittings, while flange, valve, expansion joint, pipe support, etc. were addressed. Following is a breakdown of principal on the pipe fittings:
Straight pipe and pipe fittings according to welding welding in different ways, pipe fittings can be divided into two main categories:
Butt type (BW):
pipe fittings
Socket (SW), and thread (TH) class
Butt type (BW) Socket (SW) Class
And the thread (TH) class
Elbow, tee, head cap elbow, tee, tapered pipe, pipe cap
Various pipe fittings (by order, test Beilun,

I'm looking for a good and complete set of pass-thru ratchet, socket and/or ratcheting wrenches.?
Both SAE & Metric. I have some ratcheting wrenches that came with my Craftsman set, but it's not complete.
Preferably from an inexpensive source, ie- cheaper than Craftsman.

The Differences Between Tool Chests and Toolboxes
Sometimes I hear the term tool chest and toolbox used for the same item, but tool chests are definitely different from toolboxes. So what are these differences?
First, lets look at the history of these two items. Specialized toolboxes or chests have been around for a couple of centuries, originally made of wood and specially designed for certain craftsmen; such as machinists, piano makers, upholsterer's, a farrier, cabinet maker or needle worker. Their size, design and function were different for them all. Some of these evolved into the modern toolbox, and others into modern tool chests.
To discuss the differences between the two items, lets next look at the modern toolbox. Today most toolboxes are metal or plastic, and anybody with a few tools should have one of some form. They typically have a hinged lid that latches closed with a handle on top for carrying your tools around to wherever they are needed. When opened, the lid will often reveal an inside removable tray that rests on an inside flange. This tray is great for storing your most used items. Underneath is a bigger space for larger or less used tools.
Some toolboxes will open from the middle with 2 hinges, just like a tackle box. When you open the lid, hinged smaller trays are attached to the lid and open up to reveal the compartment below. This design is most often seen on a metal toolbox, and these smaller trays usually allow you to store a lot of smaller items.
On plastic toolboxes, they will sometimes have small compartments built right into the lid, each with their own little door, perfect for a small selection of nails, screw, bolts etc.
Tools chests, though also for tools of various trades, are most often found with machinists and mechanics. Though they may have a hinged, latching lid with a top handle, they do not have the larger compartment underneath. Instead, a chest has multiple slide out drawers that are often only a couple of inches deep. This allows specific placement of your tools in a manner that is easily accessed. When you pull out a drawer, you can see exactly what is there. This is better than digging around the bottom of a toolbox for your wrench!
There are two main types of tool chests. One is as described above, and though they vary in size, they are designed so that they can be carried. The other type of tool chest is a rolling chest. Just like described above, but larger and on wheels. Often on these chests, the bottom drawers will be deeper to accommodate larger tools. Though on wheels so that they can more easily be moved, especially around a shop, they can be quite big and heavy so are not really considered portable.
Though they can be purchased separately, the smaller tool chest and the larger bottom tool chest can be purchased as a set, with the smaller chest designed to fit perfectly on top of the bottom chest. That way you can keep your most popular tools in the top chest where you have more portability.
The other main difference between tool boxes and tool chests, is that almost all tool chests are made of metal, and for some reason, they are often red. Though you can also find them in blue and black or steel gray. I have never seen one in plastic, but I have heard of them in wood, though these are difficult to find and probably custom made.
So, though tool boxes have their place, if you have a lot of tools, top and bottom tool chests may be best for you. I know that my husband could use one, he has three toolboxes and it is hard for anyone (except him) to find certain tools!

Toolbox question?
Anyone have a Craftsman quiet glide toolbox? Do the drawers slide nice? Is ball bearing a lot better? I want to get my boyfriend a nice craftsman tool box for christmas. Is there any other brands that are good? Looking for a rolling toolbox under $500.
I have a Husky brand that I bought at home depot for well under $500. It is not a professional grade but is adequate for home use. The ball bearing drawers will carry more weight which can be important for a person that has lots of tools. I would watch the sales at sears. Craftsman at least used to make a good tool box. I saw one at Costco, stainless steel with bearing drawers but it was a bit over $500. But it is a beauty.
