8 Steps to a Fantastic Mini Herb Garden
Herbs are perfect for many reasons: growing in your home or outside will delightfully scent your environment, even after harvesting and drying them. They are commonly added to food and makes your meals alive and flavorful. They have incredible medicinal value in their own natural state and have been the base of pharmaceutical medicine.
Another great quality is that these plants produce enough for a small family on a single plant of each herb you wish to grow. So the space used for the garden can be very limited for maximum use of the herbs.
Here are simple guidelines to follow to assure success of herb gardening in a small space. of course the ''garden"" is contained in one container or several pots collected together. These gardens can easily be moved from indoors to you outdoor space during the warmer season.
1. Location of the garden: the right place to set your garden is important. A south or west facing windowsill will offer good sunlight in your home, outside you should find an area that offer shade for half of the day.
2. Choosing containers: choosing the appropriate pot will make a difference in hoe the herbs react. Use plastic or clay pots or container to house the plants. Pots that are a few inches in diameter will provide sufficient space for the plant to grow well and not get out of control.
3. Mixing the soil: for best results for your herbs will be a half/half mix of potting soil and sand. To the resulting mixture, add a good teaspoon of lime juice. Herbs prefer a soil that is poor in nutrients but contain lime. This mixture will help your herbs grow better and healthier.
4. Planting the herbs: if using seeds, place them in a shallow soil base. Push the seed into the soil using your index finger. the ideal depth should be about the height of your fingernail making this easy for the plant to sprout once it germinates.
5. Watering the plants: it is very essential to water the herbs with much care. The right amount of water should leave the soil moist to the touch, no more, Of course,good drainage is also of upmost importance. If not done well, the plants could die by drowning or the roots could rot.
6. Lighting: most herbs love sunlight though a few prefer shade. Consult the lighting instruction on the back of the seeds envelope for proper guidance. Most enjoy seven hours a day of sunlight. If these standard cannot be met in an inside environment you may wish to consider artificial lighting to compensate.
7. Wind: A bit of wind will be beneficial to the your herb garden. They are not fond of strong wind but will enjoy a nice airy space to moderate wind. In the home you can use a fan to circulate the air for an hour a day.
8. Pruning the herbs: Pruning will contribute to the health of the plant and help the stronger leaves grow stronger. Unless you are harvesting the leaves, light pruning is an occasional activity you will need to tend to. Always prune your plants close to the stem or near the soil.

After pruning a mini rose, stems turn brown or black?
After I prune my mini rose bush, the stems that were pruned eventually turn dark brown or black and die. Sometimes the whole stem will eventually do this and die. How do you prevent any of the cut stems on the bush from completely dieing off? The bush gets plenty of sunlight, are planted outdoors and they get watered at the base. The temperature outdoors has been about 91 degrees.
There are two important factors that could contribute to the damage to the stems of your mini-roses. What kind of shears are you using? and how sharp are they? The main types of pruners are anvil, and bypass. Anvil's have one sharp blade and one flat. The sharp one presses the branch against the flat one, then cuts through sorta like a guillotine. Those aren't the prefered pruners. The other pruners, bypass, are more like scissors in the way that they work. They are better.
In either case if the shears aren't sharp, they'll do more crushing and less cutting. Pruners should be sharpened at least once per year. Anyplace that sharpens scissors should be able to sharpen your shears. If you're not sure where to go, try Joanne Fabrics... the same folks that make quality scissors (Fiskar etc) also make pruning shears, they should have recommendations on where to take them to sharpen them.
The other factor is cleanliness. You want the Doctor or Dentist to have sterilized instuments before they cut into you right? Diseases, whether animal or plant, are communicable that way. So, when was the last time you cleaned your pruners? Every week? At least once a month right?
A little rubbing alcohol or bleach solution will do the trick. I keep a bottle of dollar store rubbing alcohol with my pruners, a splash goes a long way.
Monitor your water and fertilizer, and your plant should recover.

Help with a 1997 chrysler concord, I replace the fuel pump but it not taking!?
I replace the fuel pump, and went to turn her on and nadd! Now I know this fuel pump is good, and from what I been told I might need the DRB III for 6k but no way in he@@ em I going to buy that tool. Now does anyone know any tricks to get the fuel pump to take with out this DRB III! I should not need a 6k tool to do a fuel pump then again most cars I work on are 1995 or older some times way older.
You do not need a drbIII to reprogram the computer when replacing a fuel pump. Are you SURE that your new pump is actually working? Try hooking the pump directly to a battery and see if it is working properly. Also there is a relay and possibly a fuse that could be bad.

I have a 1998 FZR 600 gneisses With a fully charged battery when I push the starter button weird things happen The solinoide makes a funny sound in that it sounds like one of thoes hydraulic jack hammers that dig up a road I put a screw driver over its terminals and it sparked fine but nothing else Have checked all the fuse and all ok After jump starting the bike I took a amp reading from the battery At idle it showes just over 12v at 100rpm it is 14v At 5000rpm it is 11v so looks like it is discharging I have been told the rectifier is the cause and needs to be changed Any ideas please?
Sounds like the battery does not have enough energy to throw the starter solonoid and spin the starter motor at the same time....when the voltage at the battery falls due to high current drain from the starter motor, the solonoid opens....then shuts as soon as the voltages rises at the battery due to the current drain stopping...this will give the 'jack hammer' sound.
I would suggest taking the battery off and charging it with an intelligent battery charger like an optimate. then try again
It could be the starter motor has a problem and is sucking too much current (as though its in a stalled state)...test to see if the starter motor will spin OK.
the low voltage at the terminals at 5k revs is a bit of a worry...so a new regulator/rectifier should be tried.....buy a pattern spare as genuine ones can be VERY expensive.
also...dont test batteries by putting screwdrivers across them...you will kill a battery easily that way.
This is just suggestions for a start....electrics on bikes are pretty simple, but sometime fault finding can be a pain....

Deadly Ozone From Drive-thru Mania
We are Idling our way to Deadly Consequences.
Is it possible that the time has come for us to re-evaluate the importance of what we’re actually breathing in here? Should we re-consider the consequences of this unnecessary convenience just to eliminate that simple walk?
Edmonton’s Drive-Thru’s contribute 25 tons of Green House Gases into the atmosphere each day. That’s 750 tons in a single month alone. These are startling facts and were researched from only this city alone!
This alarming discovery was given immediate attention by CTV news and revealing these startling estimated statistics May 30 2007 the source came from the University of Calgary.
Their research was based on daily estimates in the contribution of Green House Gases into the atmosphere. Edmonton’s drive-thrus as of this date are contributing an estimated 25 tons per day. Can this help repair the ozone layer?
Over a year, an estimated total would be 9000 tons just from this city alone.
Now let’s take this one step further.
Using a total of 115 cities with same population, same amount of drive-thru’s the outstanding shocker of the day would reveal a total of I MILLION TONS of Green House Gases to the atmosphere in one year alone.
We can’t even begin to comprehend what that figure would be world-wide over a period of only five years. And the irony of this is the fact that few seem to take note or consider the relevance to what we are doing to ourselves from this pollution.
Drive-thru mania is spreading like a bad disease across the US and Canada.
And there are two main reasons for their increasing popularity, convenience and money.
Chains are in frantic competition to offer the best service, while eliminating the cost of the larger restaurant. Offering the smaller restaurants with the drive-thru window, customers and owners alike are happy.
Some Startling Future Plans
• CEO Jim Keyes would like to see half of all the new 7-Eleven stores to be built with drive-thru’s.
• Dunkin Donuts decides 65% of all new restaurants will be built with drive-thru’s.
• McDonalds has 13,000 restaurants across the US however, 90% of them have drive-thru’s.
• The number of drive-thru’s has doubled in the last five years.
• Good To Go Fast Food in Houston Texas has fourteen drive-thru lanes to accommodate their customers.
With all this money making excitement building to new heights, owners are battling to reduce idle times in the drive-thru. Sounds like a sincere attempt however, you can only do so much with this idea as humans can only move so fast.
Additionally, if all the coffee shops, 7-Eleven stores, Taco Bell’s, along with Wendy’s, Burger King and McDonalds build or renovate new drive-thru windows, this sincere attempt only masks the lack of concern here and contradicts this idea of reducing idle time. Reason being, allowing for new drive-thrus year after year will only increase idle vehicles not decrease.
These drive-thru window services contribute to smog, emissions, noise pollution, air pollution, pollution within the store itself as employees at the window are constantly breathing in exhaust fumes. They add to our obesity problem creating a lazy society. They congest the parking lots creating line ups adding to even more idling vehicles.
Effects from Ground Level Ozone
Scientists have estimated that 50,000 to 100,000 deaths per year are associated with air pollution, a very disturbing reality. Regarding the ozone layer, 90% of ozone is good ozone however the remaining 10% is regarded as bad ozone and occurs at ground level as a pollutant. It’s called ground level ozone pollution.
Vehicle exhaust, solvents, industrial emissions and gasoline vapours are some of the major sources of bad ozone. Inhaling ozone at ground level enhances the lungs vulnerability to infections and increases sensitivity to other pollutants.
And repeated exposure to ozone can cause permanent damage to the respiratory system aggravating heart and lung diseases.
It damages plant life interfering with their food production hindering their resistance to insects, disease and polluted air.
Is all this for Convenience Sake, Money, Success?
Is the human species evolving or are we becoming selfish to our never ending needs, our services rendered mind set? Or is it because we cannot turn back the clock and change the structured society we all love so much?
Maybe we have misled ourselves in regards to the meaning of purpose. Materialistically speaking, is it our destiny or purpose to acquire as much as possible? Is our evolutionary success based on our technologically convenient lifestyle?
Or are we here to serve the almighty dollar?
Things can become interesting when viewed from a different perspective and we should seriously re-consider the consequences that may or will arise from our human behavioural habits.
That walk from the car is not all that far because regardless of how much money is to be made it is just never enough anyway.

you probably could but you would really have someone measure the belt length that knew what they were doing.

i need a tool, like a razor blade with a heated tip that can make precise cuts. im cutting thin plastic.?
Ive heard it referred to as a heat cutting pen. It's like a exacto knife but the tip gets hot to ease cutting. Im cutting sheets of plastic like material about .002 inches thick. Doesn aynone know anything about a tool like this or something that could be applied. ive called all around and cant find a product like this. please help
What about a wood burner? Not sure if that would be hot enough and precise enough for you.
When I was in highschool we made model airplanes out of styrofoam and we rigged up a metal line really tight and then heated it up (I forget how exactly but i know a battery charger was involved ha) but it got red hot and we moved the styrofoam around the line and it made the most acurate and precise cuts you could imagine.

38 pin mercedes benz diagnostic tool.?
I've checked that there are interfaces like CARSOFT and BENZ STAR with multiplexers well used for diagnosing MB's with 38 socket. My question is, Is there a hand held diagnositc tool that can do the same job. abs, airbag,transmission...?
The thing is it the carsoft is expensive and the clone one from china as i have read cant be reliable, interface and software.....help me out.. thanx
There is a factory tool that handles older models (full coverage up to approx. 1999, for later models with 38-pin connector only a list of modules will be supported). It's called HHT (Hand Held Tester) and it's a completely self-contained device with a display, battery and various accessories.
The newer devices (Basic, Basic2, Compact, Compact3 etc) will also support the multiplexer and 38pin connector however they are basically PCs with touch screen and no keyboard.

Solar Lighting Solutions For Horse Arenas
If you are an enthusiastic horseback rider you will probably dream about an arena of your own. Quite often horse owners have the land and even an established arena area, but cannot afford to equip it for day and night use. Luckily there are great answers with solar lighting.
Traditionally, the most expensive part of creating an outdoor riding arena is the lighting and electrical requirements that adequate fixtures demand. For example, most arenas will put to use several pole mounted fixtures in addition to an array of locally placed lights. Remember that horses are easily spooked by shadows and an arena needs to be literally flooded with light to keep horses calm and riders safe. This also means a lot of lighting and a lot of electricity, but not for those with solar lights!
Currently there are super bright fixtures capable of broadcasting light in a twenty-foot radius. These units can be mounted to the sides of buildings, set on posts or even placed on the ground. This translates to a comprehensive approach to flooding an arena with low-cost, LED solar lighting fixtures. An outdoor arena owner could simply install the units and begin their night time riding.
Many of the best solar spot lights also come equipped with on and off switches and even remote control handsets. This means that even though a nine or ten hour supply of electricity is available through the collector, the lights will only operate when the owner needs them to.
Additionally, many solar flood lights are equipped with an adjustable number of LED bulbs. These long-lasting and durable lights are known for their ability to function at low-temperatures while providing incredible illumination, and many solar spots intended to be used in outdoor arenas come with up to five LED bulbs in each fixture. These fixtures, however, can have their brilliance reduced by the built in bulb controls that reduce LED usage from the maximum five to a two or three light usage.
So, for the cost of the equipment, an outdoor arena can be fully illuminated - this means no additional power panels added to a home or barn, no expensive service from a licensed professional, no time wasted in replacing bulbs over and over, no monthly electrical bills, it may mean no permits will have to be acquired and it definitely means no need to miss a ride if there is a problem with the electricity!

why is there water coming out of overflow drain pan drain line of water heater?
I have a 40 gal/ electric water heater. I have steady hot water but the bottom of the outside housing of the water heater is rusted and a steady stream of water coming out of the over flow drain line. I noticed puddles of water under my house. do I need a new water heater orcan this be repaired?
This is pretty simple. If you can't see water coming out of the pipe coming down from the pressure relief valve, usually on the side of the heater, then the water has to be coming from the inside of the shell. The only place inside the shell for water to come out is from the tank. Once the tank starts leaking it's finished. That's about the only part of the unit that can't be repaired or replaced, individually. You need a new water heater. Depending on where you live and how long a warranty you go for, you could be looking at $250 - $350 for the unit, if you install it yourself. If you hire someone, unless there's extensive repiping to make everything fit, it shouldn't cost more than $200, including disposal of the old unit.
