Reciprocating saw blade keeps bending, what do I do?
I bought Skil 9.5 Amp Orbital recip. saw to cut off wood studs in the corner where I can't get into with any other tools. Studs attached to the cement wall (in the basement). Blade that came with the saw keeps bending when it hits wood or concrete and I keep straightening it up and keep trying but I'm afraid it will snap eventually. Does anyone have any suggestions which blade to buy? I'm thinking shorter and wider perhaps? Or should I get saw made for metal? Any other suggestions?

You need to match the blade length with the job. The shorter/wider blades are better for jamming into corners or up against walls unless you need the extra reach. I always put the blades in with the teeth facing up as well. This lets you get closer to the wall and keep the blade flat against the cutting area instead of jamming the tip into the concrete. It may sound strange but using a sawzall is an art, not a science, and requires some experience and practice. The bi-metal demolition blades are pretty good for tearing stuff apart. Try to adjust your angle of attack to get the smallest "bite" on the wood to be cut. This will speed up the saw's ability to cut. You will go through plenty of blades. Get extras.

What tasty lunches can I make for a long-haul truck driver?
My hubby is on the road for up to two weeks at a time and does not like to stop to use the microwave more than once a day. Sandwiches are okay for 2 days - 3 in a pinch - and I give him hardboiled eggs, cheese chunks, fruit, carrot sticks, jerky and nuts to eat on the go but would like new ideas. He has a fridge he can reach while driving. He has borderline high cholesterol so no high fat suggestions please! Won't touch power bars or granola bars either. Many thanks.

I opened a gallon of Clorox bleach yesterday and found that it had one of those solid tamper-proof seals under the cap, the kind that you have to peel off. My question is, why? I can understand putting them on milk and other consumable liquids but I don't understand why it's on a bottle of bleach.
Are manufacturers afraid that someone is going to taint their product?
It's so people who are handling it before it is sold don't get leaky bleach on themselves. The bottles are often thrown around and can even be turned upside down. When I worked at the grocery store I had one that was leaky and I had burns all down my arm.

Industrial Air Compressors Don't Have to be Just for the Big Boys
I have a cute little "pancake" air compressor. It's not one of the monster industrial air compressors, but with a name like "pancake" what do you expect. I think it might be a five gallon unit, if I'm lucky. It works great for about one second. I am constantly wishing I had more air, more time, and more capacity in the shop. And I am not alone. Woodworkers, tinkerers, and guys with shops all over the country deal with the same frustration. I think the think most of us fail to recognize is that just because we have a small shop doesn't mean we have to settle for small compressors.
Industrial air compressors can be used by anyone, and are just what their name says they are, industrial. That means that they are designed to work reliably under more intense conditions and demands. They are meant to be used in applications where lots of air is required. I mean, nobody likes to hear the compressor fire up every few minutes as it struggles to keep up with the high demands in a real shop. And nobody likes their work flow interrupted while they have to wait for the compressor to recharge.
The one main feature that industrial air compressors have over their smaller cousins is a larger gallon tank. This means that tanks of 20, 40, 60, 80 or larger qualify as industrial because of increased capacity. There are several brands that make these available. Campbell Hausfeld and Industrial Air are two that stand out above the competition. Let's take a closer look at them and see what some of the models are worth your consideration.
Campbell Hausfeld industrial air compressors have been around for a long time. They know what they are doing and their machines are top notch. The VT6290 weighs 175 pounds and has a 20 gallon capacity. Like all of their compressors, this one is made out of heavy duty cast iron and is oil lubed. It has a twin cylinder pump with a motor capable of running on both 120 or 240 volts. Since they put it on wheels, it can be easily situated where it is needed. Their larger VH6111 60 gallon model has a vertical tank and is meant to be stationary. This is meant to be used for higher demand applications and is perfect for any garage or shop. It sports easy to read gauges, an oversized cast iron pump, a 230 volt 3.0 horsepower motor, and 135 max psi. Pretty sweet for the average Joe!
One of the larger industrial air compressors I really like is the 80 gallon IV7518023 by Industrial Air. It will run you about $2500 large, but it is the real deal. Some of the features on this unit that set it apart are its cast iron, two stage compressor pump, hardened steel disc valves, oversized taper roller bearings, a fully balanced cast iron flywheel, and of course the large tank. This bad boy weighs 651 pounds and isn't going anywhere you don't want it to go. 7.3 horsepower gives it a 145-175 psi operating pressure, and a 175 psi maximum pressure rating.
Thankfully, none of us have to suffer with a too small, irritating compressor any longer. Industrial air compressors are now available that any of us can get.

I don't know if that's still the case but S. Cal. continues to remain big enough to mean something to these German manufacturers.
Lately, both MBZ and BMW have responded to lemon law claims with the "tampering" defense, i.e. that the consumer tampered with the vehicle to produce repeated problems. In particular, MBZ and BMW have targeted persons of Armenian and Russian descent who have made such claims.
In fairness to BMW and Mercedes, there have been reported tampering cases where consumers with contacts within the dealerships have subtly altered the electronics of the vehicle to produce "codes", check-engine lights and other electrical malfunctions which would then give rise to a lemon law claim after not being repaired after some repair attempts. However, what we're seeing now is MBZ and BMW stretching the "tampering" defense to just about any lemon law claim, particularly if the complaint involves electronics. As with prior cases, they appear to be targeting Armenian and Russian consumers.
What is particularly unfair about this is the fact that MBZ and BMW vehicles frequently have legitimate electrical defects which give rise to legitimate lemon claims. This is one of the reasons that these manufacturers are stretching the "tampering" defense well beyond its proper boundaries.
If you have a lemon claim AND IF your vehicle's defect is electrical in nature, AND PARTICULARLY IF you are Armenian or Russian, here is how you "short-circuit" the "tampering" defense:
1. When you bring your vehicle in for a repair attempt, deliver a written note to the service writer with the following: "Because of repeated instances of _______________________(describe electrical defect, i.e. "check engine light illumination"), I am considering bringing a lemon law claim for replacement or repurchase of my vehicle. I am concerned that [BMW] [MERCEDES] will accuse me of having tampered with the vehicle's electronics to falsely create a lemon law claim. THEREFORE, I INSIST THAT, DURING THIS REPAIR VISIT, YOU UNDERTAKE ANY AND ALL NECESSARY INSPECTIONS OF THE VEHICLE TO EITHER CONFIRM OR RULE OUT THE EXISTENCE OF ANY TAMPERING." You can bring this note to the dealership as many times as you want, but once will probably suffice.
2. Obviously keep a copy of the note for your own records.
3. If the vehicle remains unrepaired, you have your lemon law claim in place and you have essentially undermined their "tampering defense" by yourself throwing it into the open for an inspection specifically to either prove or rule out the tampering. This will obviously lend credibility to any future lemon law claim you may have.

Looking at buying a BMW or Mercedes?
It's time for me to purchase a new vehicle. I've been looking at the BMW X3 SUV and BMW 3 series coupe sedan. Both are good looking cars in the BMW line.. However, the Mercedes C-class and G-class are more loaded on the inside.. Any suggestions? How are the maintenance on these cars? I need something reliable and something that doesn't require me to take it to the dealer every 6-9 months.
Well, to make it simple, they are all very nice cars. Beemers are more sporty in general than the Mercs. The Mercs are more for older people (not in every case) and provide more of an leisure ride.
BMWs are engineered to the exact specifications as a race car and therefore no BMW has a horsepower lower than 200. For maintenance, they are about the same give or take a few depending on your car or your dealer. BMWs are German parts/ German made while the Mercs were bought by Mexico but still have a very good reputation.
///M vs ///AMG the BMW M motorsport wins for sure, the AMG might have more power for the drag race but in a track, the handling is just not as good as the M models.
In the end, they are both luxurious vehicles, which one you choose depends on you. C class more for leisure driving, 3 series more for performance. Add an M after it and you will get the ultimate driving machine.
