An Overview Of The Annual Mot
In the late 1950s a large percentage of people were purchasing second hand cars and light vans. Vast numbers of these vehicles having been manufactured some few years previously were not in the best condition, and some were not regularly serviced, thus numerous vehicles used on the road were potentially dangerous, often with defective brakes, lights and steering.
In 1960 the Ministry of Transport decided that all vehicles over ten years old should have their brakes, lights and steering checked every year, this became known as the MOT test. The testable age was reduced to 3 years by 1967.
The ‘MOT Tester’ is a person authorized by the government body called VOSA (Vehicle Operator Services Agency) and will conduct an inspection and comprehensive checks around the vehicle. These checks will include interior, exterior, under the bonnet and under the vehicle.
A spokesman for Elite Direct said “we have a number of trained technicians working with the latest diagnostic equipment; also we are an approved MOT service centre and meticulously follow VOSA requirements before issuing a certificate, because at the end of the day we carry the responsibility for the quality of MOT testing at our centre”
The MOT test is very through and the following components will be checked, Vehicle Identification Number, Registration Plates, Lights, Steering and Suspension, Wipers and Washer Bottle, Windscreen, Horn, Seatbelts, Seats, Fuel systems, Emissions, Bodywork, Doors, Mirrors Wheels and Tyres, Brakes.
The purpose of the MOT test is to ensure the vehicle meets the safety requirements by law if your vehicle is 3 years or older it will need an annual test. You may be asked to produce your MOT certificate if your vehicle is involved in an accident, and you could be fined if you do not produce an up to date certificate.
Elite Direct is a ‘one stop’ service centre to meet every requirement of the motorist, more importantly your vehicle is in safe hands, as all work is carried out by highly trained technicians.

The Limits of Pocket Folders
Pocket folder printing is a good supplement for a lot of related written material. However, there are situations where pocket folder printing might not be the best for your purposes. I have seen a lot of people invest in high quality folder printing only to find out that a booklet, catalog or magazine format was better suited.
How about you? Have you decided on printing pocket folders? To help you in deciding, here are a few limitations of pocket folder printing. If one of these things hits a chord, then you might want to try another type of print medium.
Limited Carrying Capacity
A presentation folder is of course just a simple color folder. It is not a binder or “case folder.” Because of this, pocket folders have limits in the number of things you can fit into them. Once your content for your folder reaches around 30 pages and above, it would be a good idea to rethink about printing color pocket folders. You do not want a folder crinkling up under the stress of those pages. It makes the folders look ugly, and ultimately it does not look professional. If you have many pages to bind together, why not redesign your content into a booklet or catalog?
Folders can be superfluous
Sometimes, using full color pocket folders with a glossy finish can be a bit too much. Have you heard the people saying that everything should be encased in a presentation folder to maximize their marketing potential? Yes, this may be true to a point. However, if you only have a one or two-page press release to give do you really need to insert them to a pocket folder? There are situations where prudence should be practiced and you should reconsider printing pocket folders. Sometimes, stapling things together, or adding a cover page can be enough. You might even save a few trees since you do not need the extra folder paper.
Extra Cost
As some people say, there is no such thing as a free lunch. Pocket folder printing will cost you. Often, since it is made of harder more durable material, it might even be more expensive than the stuff you are about to slide inside them. Think about this if you place to print pocket folders. Can your budget shoulder the extra cost of printing folders? Is it worth the money investment in printing them considering the goals of the project and the materials you will be using?
Used as a weak tying up tool
Lastly, people sometimes just put everything and anything inside folders. Well it is a folder after all. However, this is just a sign of weakness. When people just want to give every piece of written material and wrap them up in a folder it is probably going to look like a patchwork of unrelated material. People will get confused.
If the things you want to give away are only remotely related, then maybe it is best to give out those things separately. Since they are different printed material anyway, different people might only want specific content rather than the whole package. Therefore, you may not need a pocket folder.
Those are a few reasons to consider when you are thinking of pocket folder printing. If any of these things seem to be familiar to you, then you should rethink of printing your pocket folders. You might benefit more if you print other types like booklets, catalogs or magazines.

Which is the best type of mattress - pocket sprung or Memory Foam?
My current mattress is pocket sprung and though it wasnt cheap it hasnt lasted very well. Memory Foam seems to be the upcoming thing to have but could I have some good manufacturers, what depth to go for and any other helpful hints you can give me please.
Memory foam by a long way! I have had one for nearly 2 years and must say it's the comfiest mattress I have ever slept on, it conforms to your body shape so you don't have anything digging into you like springs. I have a bad back and no longer struggle to get out of bed in the morning. Hope this helps!

Painting/Epoxying your Garage Floor!
Painting your garage floor!
This is a very popular thing to do these days and can really improve the functionality and appearance of your garage. However, if done improperly or with the wrong product, you will regret ever finishing that floor! I have had good experiences using the type of garage epoxy that Sherwin Williams sells, but there are many other good products available at many different retailers. One thing to look for when choosing a garage floor epoxy is that you do not need to “etch” the floor with an acidic product before beginning. Many professional high end products require this, however, for most homeowners you will be fine with a product that does not require this. The only way you may need to acid etch your floor is if your garage floor is filthy with oil/grease stains and very old. Acid etching cleans the surface and makes it more porous and rough (ready to accept paint). Ask the person behind the paint desk if you need to do this or not!
Here are the advantages and disadvantages of finishing the floor. Then we will go through the proper way to apply the paint/epoxy on the garage floor.
Finishing the floor in your garage has the following advantages:
- Improves appearance.
- Ability to wash up spilled substances easier.
- Protects your concrete.
- Did we say looks awesome?
Now some disadvantages:
- Many times it will make your floor more slippery when wet (even if you add non slip substances).
- If not done correctly can ruin the usefulness and appearance of your garage (chipping, hot tire pickup, marks, etc).
When choosing a garage floor paint/epoxy go with the epoxy choice. I have never seen a paint for a garage floor that stands up well to hot tire pick up, no matter what the paint store sales person says. Hot tire pick up is simply when you pull into your garage after being out driving and your tires are hot enough that an inferior product on your garage floor will actually pull off the floor and stick to your tires. Talk about a mess. Look for a two part epoxy kit with color flecks and non-slip additive available in the kit. Your typical kit will include a small can of activator, a large gallon can of the base of the epoxy, colored flecks to add for aesthetic appearance, and non-slip additive. Simply follow the directions on the box to apply the paint.
1. Usually you will want to pressure wash or at a minimum carefully clean off and sweep the surface you are painting (many of these products can be used inside or outside on concrete surfaces). Make sure the surface is very dry and clean of any dust and debris.
2. Mix the activator (small can) into the large can. An electric mixer works great for this but a paint paddle will work fine.
3. Pour the mixture into a paint tray and cut in the area you are painting with a junk brush (it will get ruined).
4. Apply the paint in even strokes working on small areas at a time, using a 3/8” or 1/2” nap roller cover. Many times a garage floor is poured in anywhere from 2-6 separate blocks of concrete. Only paint one block at a time and make sure you don’t paint yourself into a corner.
5. Once you paint on the product you can add the optional color flecks, while the paint is still wet (most people like the look of these flecks).
6. Now the most important part; make sure you purchase the clear sealant that gets painted on overtop the epoxy (usually sold separately). If you do not use this glaze coating, the bottom layer of epoxy will chip, come up, and the flecks will get ripped out. You paint on the clear coat just like you did the bottom epoxy layer. Depending on the type of kit you get, there is normally a non-slip additive you can mix into either the base epoxy coat or the topcoat of glaze. Use the non-slip additive! Without this additive the paint will act like a sheet of ice when wet. You can also add a bit more non-skid additive to the top or bottom coat than comes with the kit, but you will have to purchase this separately.
A couple of things to remember are that you will not be able to drive on the freshly painted surface for a couple of days. Also, try to avoid scraping your snow blower and other power tools on the epoxy coating as much as possible.

Leaky pipes under the laundry tub?
This is a two part question - and please forgive my complete lack of knowledge on this subject and of what these parts are called. The pipes under my laundry tub are leaking. They are white so I am assuming they are some sort of plastic. There is one bendy one on the bottom and then it goes up to a side ways bendy one before it goes into the main drain. So my first problem is does anyone know how to fix or replace these kinds of pipes - what kind of tools it takes and if I have to have some sort of sealant or something. It looks like someone has 'glued' the joints together. My second is I am wondering if those bends aren't in the right spot will it cause the tub to not drain properly? (the tub is not secured to the floor so it scoots around some) I would really rather not have to have a plumber come out and tell me I'm an idiot so any info you have to share before I have to talk face to face with a pro would be greatly appreciated!
The reason the pipes are leaking is because the tub is not fastened to the floor or wall. Movement like this will break the pipes seal. Yes they are plastic and they are glued together. You will have to cut out the whole assembly and start over. If you are not familiar with this process you should call in a plumber. Have the plumber anchor the tub or install a "Flexible" joint or both. It shouldn't take a good plumber more than 1 to 2 hours to complete this project.

Brake Caliper
Brake Caliper

Learn About The Parts Of Braking System
Inside each and every type of motor vehicle there are many parts, which play their respective role in the drive of that specific vehicle. Among all other kinds of parts, the parts of braking system are extremely important. A drive must know about the working and efficiency of braking parts. There is a complete and detailed assembly line, in which many parts are assembled including brake shoes, discs, pads, calipers, rotors and a number of others. The basic purpose of brake system is to slow down the speed of the moving vehicle to bring it to a complete halt. And for this various pars play their roles.
Brake pads are considered to be essential and important for every braking system. Their function is to increase the friction, so that the moving vehicle can be stopped. In all the brake discs systems, the working of brake pads is to squeeze the brake calipers. This squeezing is done against the tires' rotors. You will find that the brake parts are placed in between the rotors and calipers, which helps in the absorption of energy, so that required grip is provided to that car in order to stop it. Initially, brake pads were made up of organic materials including carbon and asbestos, which were connected with each other, with the help of resin. Later on, the government of US banned the usage of asbestos, but still you can see few organically manufactured pads available in the markets. All those vehicles, which are designed and manufactured for the organic pads can make use of such brake pads.
Mostly, you will get to purchase semi metallic pads. Brake shoes are also very important parts of braking system. Whenever a driver uses brake, he is actually dealing with the mechanical part of that brake that helps him in controlling the speed of the vehicle or to stop it. The backside of brake shoe is made up of metallic material. The area that is contacted with the brake is actually given padding; just to make sure that efficient friction is provided, in order to stop the rotation of wheels, without harming or damaging the braking system. These shoes are placed inside brake discs. These discs have brake calipers that actually serve the function of brake shoes in a little bit different manner. Servicing of each of these parts is extremely important. One can easily replace or change the brake shoes, but to do servicing of brake discs is not an easy task, but you are in need to take the services of a trained mechanic, who can do this task.

How do I remove the brake caliper from a 1979 Ford F150?
I've always had Chevy's before and I can't figure how to get this thing off. There was a bolt at the bottom that held the caliper in place. I removed that. Now the caliper slides from side to side with my hand, but there is also this pin that slides with it and doesn't allow the caliper to come all the way off of the rotor. Just wondering if anyone can give me a little insight. Thanks.
where you toke the bolt out the peice needs to be pounded straight back theres 2 peices that will come out at same time i use a screwdriver and hammer

Meiji Microscopes
Meiji Techno Co., Ltd. is the third-largest manufacturer of optical microscopes in Japan. In 1964, Azuma Optics Co., Ltd. was founded as a contract manufacturer of microscopes and quickly established a reputation for high quality and fast delivery. In 1975, the company reformed into Meiji Techno Co., Ltd. and began selling microscopes directly to the public under the name Meiji Techno.
Originally a manufacturer of educational microscopes, Meiji Techno has since extended product lines into the industrial, laboratory, and higher education markets. Meiji products are sold throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas by agents or distributors authorized by Meiji Techno Co., Ltd., or the American subsidiary Meiji Techno America.
Some of Meiji's product line includes stereo, compound, inverted, metallurgical gemological and video microscopes. It also offers an accessory selection that includes 35mm, video and digital cameras, filters, illuminators and many more options.
For many applications the ability to capture, display, and preserve specimen images is of equal or greater importance than actually viewing the specimen through the eyepieces. Photomicrography (35mm and other chemical formats) has been a common option on microscopes for decades, but the recent development of relatively inexpensive CCD (charged couple device) video and digital cameras has greatly increased both the popularity and flexibility of microscope imaging. Instead of clicking through slides during a lecture, university professors can now display real-time video images on projection televisions; petroleum geologists can e-mail images of core samples to their laboratories from remote locations around the world; oncologists can refer to CD or on-line catalogues of cell images to help them make faster and more accurate diagnoses. Whether your application calls for 35mm, large-format Polaroid, video, or digital imaging, Meiji Techno can provide you with the appropriate microscope and accessories.
Meiji Techno America was incorporated as a subsidiary of Meiji Techno Co., Ltd. in 1986, distributing Meiji Techno products and offering technical assistance to customers throughout the United States, Canada, and South and Central America. Originally located in Woburn, Massachusetts, Meiji Techno America moved to San Jose, California in December of 1991 and more recently expanded to a larger facility in Santa Clara, California as of January 2006.
Over the years, Meiji Techno America has developed a diverse network of over 240 knowledgeable dealers with expertise in many specialized applications.
No matter where you are located or what your requirements are, Meiji Techno has the products and expertise to help you attain your microscopy goals.

How do you choose the best microscope? I'm a novice hobbyist with a modest budget.?
Is 1000x magnification a must? Digital sounds interesting. Monocular vs. binocular? How much does price play a part in the microscoe (for instance a $99 vs $400 vs. $2000)? It would be for home use, basically to satisfy my curiosity...I find myself constantly using a magnifying glass(!) to try and look at minscule things. Maybe I watch too much CSI....
It depends on what you want to see with your microscope. 1000x is good for looking INSIDE CELLS, but 10x is probably too much for looking at things in the physical world that you know. The things you see on CSI are usually about 10-to-30x. If someone gives you a better answer, then take their advice, but you can teach yourself a lot about this on eBay, believe it or not. The auctions all have sample images and you can get an idea about the applications for various magnifications. See http://stores.ebay.com/Precision-World/Purchase-Guide.html for a great guide to choosing a microscope. These folks have over 1,000 microscopes for sale on eBay and you will find several examples to help you choose.

How do cellulose and fiberglass handle open flame?
Fender Cover
Fender Cover

Why Foam-filled Fenders?
Fenders are an essential part of any dock or harbor facility. Docking a ship is an imprecise matter, and fenders must be in place to keep ships from being damaged by bumping, scraping or crashing into docks. By the same token, the docks themselves must be protected from damage by ships. Fenders also come into play to prevent damage from ships coming into contact with each other. Every vessel from a pleasure craft to a fishing boat to a supertanker needs fenders; every structure from a dock to a bridge to an oil rig does, as well.
Historically, fenders were woven together from rope, in a variety of knots and patterns still known and used today by many traditionalists. They would typically be covered with a layer of old tires as a buffer, then used as a fenderboard along a dock piling. Like everything else, fenders have been improved over the years.
For years, the inflatable Yokohama fender was the state-of-the-art fendering system. Yokohama fenders, however, require air pressure and safety valves that need to be maintained. Inflatable fenders also have a “recoil” that will cause ships to “bounce” in the other direction after contact. Thousands of inflatable Yokohama fenders are still in use worldwide, but the next logical progression in fender and mooring technology is the foam-filled fender. Constructed with a tough outer skin and heat-laminated layers of foam at their core, foam-filled fenders offer the following advantages:
-
Softer berthing. Unlike the “bounce” of inflatable Yokohama fenders, a foam-filled fender rebounds more slowly, rather than jolting the ship and its passengers as it buckles and rebounds.
-
All tide mooring. Foam-filled fenders, by design, make mooring easier regardless of tidal phase or conditions.
-
Hull conforming. The design of the foam core in a foam-filled fender gives great resilience and the ability to conform to a vessel’s contours. The result is a more even distribution of energies over a greater area, and much lower hull pressures.
-
Unsinkable. Like a fishing bobber, the foam core of a foam-filled fender makes it impossible to sink.
-
Durable. Foam-filled fenders are available in different rubber compounds like neoprene, EPDM, butyl and polyurethane. The result is a product that is resistant to saltwater, ultraviolet rays, ozone aging, dry rot and extremes of temperature and weather, making it suitable for use in any environment worldwide.

Why is oil accumulating inside my air cleaner cover?
I have clean oil inside my air cleaner, what gives? There's also a film of oil on the right inner fender where the intake for the air cleaner cover points like is belching oil out of it. The engine is a stock 350ci V8 in a 1973 Monte Carlo.
Your crankcase-breather lets excess pressure vent into the air-cleaner, where the oil vapour should be sucked through the carb and be burnt by the engine. If you are accumulating oil there, it points to an excess of blow-by pressure, and it may be time for a new set of rings (Dude, if that engine is original, it's 37 years old!) or maybe a re-bore and larger set of pistons.
Please, email me a photo of this fine beast? I live in the UK, but I love chunky American cars! nelkyopel@yahoo.co.uk
Thanks!
